SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The IT operations manager is responsible for managing existing IT operations and implementing new operations processes within the organization; managing expectations across all stakeholder groups; sharing responsibility for project success; He/she is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate computing resources are available to the user community and performing at a high level. The Manager of IT Operations provides leadership to the team that provides deployment and support services for network, communications, Level 1 and 2 helpdesk, and server and storage.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Director of I.T., position is responsible for the overall integrity, availability and confidentiality of the corporate I.T. systems and data.
  • Leading a staff of support professionals covering as aspects of Silgan IT Operations including the help desk, servers, storage, network, security, email, wireless, barcoding, telephony and mobile devices
  • Leading r the risk management of Silgan's IT systems by identifying, assessing and controlling threats to Silgan's asset including threats from a wide variety of sources, including financial uncertainty, legal liabilities, strategic management errors, accidents and natural disasters.
  • Responsible for data protection and business continuity as it relates to IT Operations.
  • Identifying appropriate performance metrics for the IT Operations group, tracking performance against those metrics, and ensuring that actual performance stays at or above an acceptable level
  • Identifying improvement opportunities in the areas of security, infrastructure, communications, and technical support, then implementing these based on management approval.
  • Defining standards for computing hardware and operational systems
  • Acquiring and deploying computer hardware and operational systems
  • Procuring and managing contractors in the support of computing and operational systems
  • Participating in the annual budget process for both operational and capital expenditures and for the ongoing expense reduction initiatives and ensuring adherence to budgets and evaluating expenses.
  • Development and ongoing review of policies and procedures related to business continuity planning, incident response and mitigation, malware remediation, vulnerability scanning and remediation and others. Implementing steps to ensure that these policies and procedures are followed.
  • Planning and managing projects for IT operations related projects.
  • Leading, mentoring, training and supporting a highly skilled and motivated team of professionals
  • Leading telecommunications projects and continuously evaluating existing systems against new emerging technology to ensure Silgan stays up-to-date and is using the best technology for its needs.
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with existing and potential new vendors.

AUTHORITY LEVEL (if applicable):

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or related degree preferred.

Technical Skills Required:

  • 5+ years Information Technology experience
  • 3+ years telephony experience
  • 3+ years help desk support experience
  • Experience with Cisco networking
  • Experience with VOIP telephone systems
  • Experience with Windows server operating systems
  • Experience with Windows desktop operating systems
  • Experience with security (e.g. firewalls, IPS/IDS, anti-virus, SEIM)

Preferred Skills

  • CCNA
  • MCSE
  • Security+

Other Skills Required:

  • Must be a team player and have a winning attitude.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving ability, logical and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the business and Information Technology
