Essential Functions

Assist the surgeon by providing seamless support during all clinical and surgical activities.

Serve as the main point of contact for outside communications from other doctors, and patients.

Presents patient history summary and alerts Ophthalmologist to changes in visual acuity, and elevated extraocular pressure.

Annotates patient charts with exam and treatment results.

Examines pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements.

Schedules patients with other doctors for consultation as required.

Provide clients and doctors with everything they need before, during, and after visits, such as results of diagnostic tests, the patient's medical history, referrals, and prescriptions.

Review the Surgeon's schedule to ensure there are no overlaps or overbookings.

Manage patient needs both in office and on the phone, answering questions about medical concerns, surgery concerns, use of eye drops, or other issues as needed.

Greet patients, and orient them to programs, pre/post examination expectations, client questions, and arrangements inside and outside of our office.

Implement program recommendations such as Premium intraocular lens (IOL).

Educate patients on the upgraded intraocular lens (IOL) implants available today, explaining the benefits of premium options such as multifocal, Toric, and extended-depth-of-focus lenses.

Support the physician in managing workflow and completing tasks and responsibilities according to appropriate timelines.

Collect and organize records, maintain electronic charts, and all client / surgical / program / medical information and data.

Orders and writes prescriptions and approves drug refills under physician's instructions.

Administrative and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Technician (COT) preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or surgical assistant.

Strong knowledge of ophthalmic instruments, procedures, and terminology.

Familiarity with EMR systems (experience with NextGen is a plus).

In-depth understanding of IOL options and their benefits, including advanced technology lenses.

Excellent organizational skills and diligence.

Ability to travel daily.

Flexibility to adapt to a varying schedule based on the surgeon's itinerary.

Excellent customer service and communication skills

Knowledge and Skills Sets per Tier:

Tier is based on knowledge and ability to do one or more of the following tasks:

Tier 1: Full work up tasks.

Tier 2: Full work up and clinical assistant tasks or scribing or basic testing tasks.

Tier 3: Full work up, scribing and clinical assistant tasks and basic diagnostic testing tasks.

Tier 4: Full work up and clinical assistant, basic diagnostic testing, and scribing or advanced testing as in tier 4 diagnostic tester.

Tier 5: Certified Ophthalmic Technician.

The compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. As a part of the compensation package, this role may include eligible bonuses and commissions.
