The Nurse Practitioner will perform all duties and tasks under the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist (Medical Program Co-Directors, Irvine Medical Campus Medical Director). The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care's division of Center for Perioperative Care advocates for each patient to be medically optimized prior to surgery, to experience a smooth hospital course, and to return to normal life activities. Patients receive individualized service that must be expertly coordinated across multiple departments and phases of care.


Your Role on the Team

The position of Nurse Practitioner I in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in Perioperative Anesthesia Care. Under the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist (Medical Program Co-Directors, Irvine Campus Medical Director) and in accordance with standardized procedures the Nurse Practitioner will perform all duties and tasks, participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. The Nurse Practitioner works with the physicians/surgeons/anesthesiologists/APP colleagues and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice, including but not limited to, performing and documentation of histories and physicals, pre-operative and postoperative evaluations and care. This position also includes planning/coordinating with anesthesia/surgeons/outside providers and PCPs as applicable, responding to changes in patient status throughout the perioperative period, providing needed prescriptions/evaluations/referral/treatments as permitted under their standardized procedure. Provide home health services and DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, PT, and order radiographic or diagnostic requests, and specialized treatment privileges. May also perform surgical site markings, provide patient education, arrange follow-up appointments, and perform discharges. May also engage in any approved privileges provided the APP has completed the necessary proctoring or FPPE requirements through prior competency for independent procedural activity.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • California RN and Nurse Practitioner License
  • AGACNP or ACNP
  • Current Active, Unrestricted Furnishing License and DEA Registration
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Educational training and/or experience to support setting and patient population.
  • Must successfully complete the UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic problems
  • Must be able to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
  • NP National Board Certification (AG-ACNP or ACNP)
  • Current Furnishing license and DEA registration
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association
  • Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification by the American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Prior experience taking care of patients with acute care in an ambulatory care center.
  • Prior experience in an intensive care unit.
  • Ability to assess pediatric patients within the scope of the NP practice and national board certification.

  • Prior and relevant Perioperative / Peri-Anesthesia experience

Special Conditions:

  • Hours: 18:30-07:00. Including weekend and holidays, occasional day shift
