Office of Student Involvement

Job Description

The mission of the Office of Student Involvement is to engage students in a vibrant campus community through holistic, co-curricular experiences.
The Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Affairs serves as leader of the team supporting the approximately 5% of undergraduate students who are members of one of the University's 16 Greek-letter organizations. This staff member will report to the Director for Student Involvement and will assist in furthering the university's strategic plan of providing exceptional student learning, success and experience. This position supports individual student development, team development and advances community goals that align with the educational mission of the university.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Oversight of Fraternity & Sorority Community
* Provide overall leadership and direction for the Fraternity and Sorority community at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
* Supervise the Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
* Oversee undergraduate and graduate student staff, as budget permits.
* Develop, implement, and manage the Standards of Fraternal Excellence (SOFE) program, ensuring education and accountability for recognized organizations.
* Coordinate educational opportunities for the Fraternity and Sorority community including but not limited to workshops, curriculum design and student conference attendance.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with chapter (inter)national headquarters staff.

Council & Chapter Advising
* Serve as the primary advisor for at least one governing council (e.g. National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council, and/or the Interfraternity Council). Duties include coordinating and facilitating officer transitions, leading weekly executive council meetings, meeting with executive members 1:1, coordinate and monitor fall & spring membership recruitment/intake including communication with students who have expressed interest in joining; coordinate chapter reactivation/expansion process; and provide oversight for council budgeting and spending.
* Serve as a chapter coach to a portfolio of chapter presidents across all 3 governing councils meeting 1:1 at least twice a semester.
* Serve as a liaison for chapter advisors falling within their portfolio, seeking their advice, input, and collaboration to identify chapter successes and areas for improvement.

Programming & Events
* Planning and facilitation of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs signature leadership workshops including the New Member Symposium, Presidents Workshop, and Risk Management Workshop.
* Collaborate with the UMKC community to implement, execute, and evaluate enriching, informative, and memorable programs and activities.
* Maintain data and metrics regarding participation in activities and events. Produce evaluations and assessments of initiatives and report the results to stakeholders.
* Develop collaborative relationships across campus and across divisions in order to promote fraternity and sorority life community matters on campus.
* Participate, develop, and implement best practices in leadership programming and training including workshops, retreats, risk management workshops, student travel, and leadership recognition in support of the Standards of Fraternal Excellence (SOFE).

Other
* Represent Fraternity & Sorority Affairs and the Office of Student Involvement at Orientation and Admissions Programs.
* Oversee the creation and maintenance of promotional materials, including social media, websites, and advertising.
* Attend fraternity and sorority events, requiring occasional evening and weekend work.
* Provide support to other areas within the Office of Student Involvement as needed.
* Serve on university committees as assigned.
* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree and a minimum of three years progressive experience advising and assisting with the development of fraternity and sorority communities.
* Supervisory experience.
* Affiliation with an inter/national fraternal organization.
* Experience with data collection and analysis.
* Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and leadership skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
* A creative, energetic, and team-focused approach, with a commitment to student development and flexibility.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Annual salary of $55,000- $59,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
