Description

We are hiring a Maintenance Director to stir the direction for plant maintenance leaders towards the achievement of strategic objectives and foster a strong support system for our production teams

Who You Are:

As the Director of Maintenance, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of oversight for maintenance and associated processes across our global manufacturing plants. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, you will set goals, strategies, and objectives to steer the priorities of plant maintenance leaders and facilitate effective support for production teams through cross-functional collaboration. Your expertise in maintenance best practices will ensure that strategies and processes align with operational manufacturing outcomes. This centralized position will drive process consistency and accountability across our global manufacturing footprint, while maintaining a broader perspective on the department's strategy and vision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional and/or Certified Plant Maintenance Manager
  • Bachelor Degree (B.Sc./M.Sc.) or equivalent
  • Must be willing to travel across North America 25%

  • Identify challenges and find innovative solutions to maintenance-related problems
  • Turn theories of best practices into actionable insights, maintaining a continuous improvement mindset
  • Evaluate the quality of maintenance effectiveness and efficiency data, analyzing financial metrics to identify trends and derive actions for improved performance

Technical Proficiency:

  • Strong foundation of technical expertise in manufacturing equipment, production processes, ERP systems, and regulatory codes and compliance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, common maintenance procedures, and safety, environmental, and legal regulations
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems

Financial Acumen:

  • Contribute to budget planning and the impact of maintenance on the broader manufacturing system
  • Oversee funding for resource planning and apprenticeship programs
  • Knowledge of project economics, including value engineering, Opex and Capex management, COGS impacts, and opportunity cost

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form to audiences across all levels of the organization, including Operations leadership.

What You Will Be Doing:

Processes and Asset Management:

  • Develop and implement working methodologies to improve asset utilization, efficiency, and reliability across all plants
  • Facilitate a shift toward proactive maintenance strategies such as preventative maintenance and predictive technologies
  • Implement emergency response plans for equipment or facility failures
  • Develop key performance indicators for equipment uptime, safety, and labor efficiency
  • Ensure robust tracking for equipment reliability and maintenance procedures
  • Standardize maintenance metrics and monitor ongoing performance in all plants
  • Develop a maintenance excellence program
  • Approve repairing and replacing equipment, tooling, and facility systems
  • Provide technical support for plant infrastructure projects, regional operations initiatives, and continuous improvement activities
  • Benchmark, identify, and integrate new technologies and methodologies to drive toward best practices for Steelcase maintenance

Leadership:

  • Provide career development and training for maintenance leaders and their teams
  • Ensure all employees maintain proper qualifications
  • Oversee the apprenticeship program and strategic direction across all plants
  • Mobilize plant leaders toward continuous improvement to meet maintenance KPI targets
  • Identify and manage high-impact projects
  • Collaborate with other leaders in Operations to align on company priorities

Budgets and Financial Planning:

  • Develop and manage the maintenance budget
  • Optimize resource allocation and cost control across all plants
  • Plan and monitor Capex/Opex budgets for equipment and assets
  • Oversee vendor relationships and company MRO expenses

Compliance:

  • Ensure company compliance with safety, health, environmental, and legal regulations
  • Meet or exceed OSHA and other pertinent agency rules
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Coordinate health and safety audits as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability performance and implement new technologies to contribute to company sustainability targets
