HDR is looking for a Transit Rail EIT to join our Southern California Transportation group to support the design and/or planning of public transportation projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working on rail transit projects in Southern California. The successful candidate shall demonstrate basic knowledge of applicable federal, state and local standard and requirements and has an understanding of project delivery processes for various phases of project development from conceptual design to design support during construction.

In the role of Transit Rail EIT, we'll count on you to:



  • Support Rail Project Managers and Engineers to develop track and civil design plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Take responsibility for civil and track engineering assignments, including site layout, drainage, grading, and utilities tasks
  • Develop design criteria, project guides, project meeting notes, and project controls while supporting the Project Manager
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more senior engineers on larger projects
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer basic knowledge of InRoads/InRail, OpenRailDesigner, and/or Civil3D
  • Experience with 3D modeling
  • 2+ years of experience in rail/transportation design
  • Candidates hired without their EIT will be called a Rail Transit Designer and expected to obtain EIT for career progression
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Local candidates preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • MS Office Applications experience
  • Strong interest in railroad design
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $69,000 - $80,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
