(AEL) is an engineering group at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc (HATCI) that focuses on advanced technology research and development that can be applied to current/future production vehicles and future mobility. AEL covers a wide range of areas from the development of new vehicle concepts to CAE and vehicle energy analysis and management.

Job Description:

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Senior BMS Software Integration/Control Engineer to join our High Voltage Battery System Design & Development Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of Battery Management Systems (BMS) for high-voltage battery systems, contributing to the next generation of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Project Management:


    • Act as a BMS project manager, hosting weekly meetings with the internal teams and suppliers
    • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including software design requirements/specifications, validation plans & reports
    • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to the internal team or suppliers to ensure software functions, quality, and maintainability.


  2. BMS Software Development:


    • Collaborate with BMS suppliers to design, develop, and implement control algorithms for Battery Management Systems, including battery state estimation (SOC, SOH & SOP), CAN communication, and ECU management.
    • Collaborate with BMS suppliers to develop software for battery safety protection, thermal management, cell & module management, thermal propagation detection, and diagnostics.


  3. Control System Optimization:


    • Optimize battery control strategies to enhance performance, safety, and longevity for the high-voltage battery systems.
    • Perform real-time testing and calibration of control systems in both simulation and hardware environments.


  4. Software/hardware Validation and Testing:


    • Conduct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing to validate BMS functions.
    • Create and execute validation plans for BMS functions, such as charge/discharge control, thermal control, fault detection, and diagnostics.
    • Develop software tools/test scripts for software/hardware integration and test data analysis.


  5. System Integration:


    • Work closely with hardware engineers and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of BMS software with high-voltage battery systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to integrate high-voltage systems into vehicle platforms.
    • Troubleshoot high-voltage battery systems and vehicles by using lab and measurement equipment, such as power suppliers, oscilloscopes, Vector CANoe, or CANalyzer and provide technical feedback to the internal team or suppliers


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:



  • Strongly ability to keep multiple projects moving forward in parallel
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in BMS software development, control systems, or embedded software design.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Proficiency in Vector tools, such as CANoe, CANalyzer, or CANape
  • Experience with model-based design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Understanding battery cell chemistry, design, battery management principles, and high voltage safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN).


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with automotive power systems, power distribution, and CAN bus protocol
  • Experience with ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with HIL/SIL systems and tools such as dSPACE.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
