Overview
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is responsible for the administration and oversight of the federal USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) grants awarded to DEC in 2020 and 2023. These grants total $26 million and include another $20 million in match. The grants are focused on accelerating the implementation of best management practices (BMP) on agricultural and forest land in the State of Vermont. This position will support these grants as well as DEC's overall work on creative and innovative approaches to agricultural and forestry BMPs, land conservation and wetland restoration and conservation, that will advance the water quality and natural resource goals of the Department and the State. Job duties include:
The position involves direct interaction with state and federal water quality partners, education about and engagement in other initiatives, and opportunities for career development in the field of natural resources improvement and protection. Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field. OR Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2) or more years of experience in a natural resources field. OR Five (5) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field. Total Compensation
