Position Purpose

Performs turf maintenance to athletic fields, buildings, and facilities, including mowing, and irrigation. Perform infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including, watering infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter's boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield.


Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Utilizes working tools and maintenance equipment, such as riding mowers, tractors, single-axle trucks, push mowers, and weed eaters; Ensures all facilities and playing surfaces are in safe and operable condition, Interacts resourcefully with various groups and individuals, such as patrons, students, staff, etc., in the performance of daily activities, Cleans mechanical equipment; may use City vehicle to pick up parts and other required supplies. Perform semi-skilled and skilled athletic field maintenance and repair work in the assigned area of work. Raking the infield to maintain proper playing conditions, dragging the field with a drag mat, and replacing loose dirt. Applying chalk lines to mark the playing field, including batter's boxes and base paths.


Qualifications - Working Environment / Minimum Qualifications

Must be highly motivated, professional, and have the capacity to take direction successfully. Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and standard practices of park maintenance; knowledge of mechanical operation of small tractors, mowers, and park-related vehicular equipment; knowledge of basic hand and power tools, including push mowers, and weed eaters; knowledge of safety rules, practices and procedures; ability to follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, other employees, and public.

Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to perform under high stress situations. Pick up paper and other trash/debris; sweep entrances; replenish and maintain restroom supplies including soap dispensers, tissues and towels.

REQUIREMENTS: Eighteen years of age to operate equipment, Valid driver's license. Lifting: Up to 50 lbs.
