The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

The Digital Systems Engineering Department (DSED), part of SED, is charged with helping our customers successfully adopt, integrate, and utilize digital system models, methods, tools, and best practices as part of their systems engineering acquisition and realization lifecycle processes through DE and MBSE research & innovation, prototyping, analysis, training, and advisory functions.

We seek a Digital Transformation Architect who will play a key role in driving innovation and enabling our customers to achieve their business goals through the strategic use of digital engineering technologies and practices. This role requires a blend of business acumen, technical expertise, and leadership to architect and oversee digital solutions that optimize business and engineering processes to achieve desired mission outcomes. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking professional eager to drive innovation and shape the digital future for our customers.

Position Overview:

What you'll be doing:

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Act as a trusted advisor in executing the NNSA digital transformation strategy.
  • Work closely with NNSA senior leadership to understand their digital transformation needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Serve as liaison between NNSA senior leadership and technical professionals to ensure NNSA digital transformation strategy alignment with weapon systems acquisition lifecycle processes, including engineering, production, and program management.

Strategic Vision and Planning:

  • Identify, develop, and execute a comprehensive digital transformation strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for digital innovation and process optimization across NNSA Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).

Solution Architecture

  • Architect scalable, secure, and innovative digital solutions that integrate seamlessly with acquisition, engineering, production, and sustainment processes.
  • Utilize enterprise-level frameworks, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.

Technology Evaluation and Implementation:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate technological platforms and tools for insertion into the digital solution architecture.
  • Guide the implementation of the digital solution architecture, ensuring project deliveries are on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

Transformation Management:

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for digital transformation initiatives.
  • Continuously assess the performance of digital solutions and optimize them for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in leading change initiatives to support adopting and integrating digital tools and practices into the digital solution architecture.
  • Assist NNSA Labs, plants, and Sites (LPS) in designing training programs and support mechanisms to empower teams during the transition.
  • Serves as Executive Action Officer for customer Digital Transformation Senior Steering Group.
  • Manage content for information sharing between multiple sites, implementing Digital Thread and Transformation initiatives.

Governance and Compliance:

  • Ensure digital solution architecture meets regulatory requirements, security standards, and policies.
  • Recommend governance frameworks for managing digital assets and data.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 12+ years of proven experience in defining and implementing digital transformation or IT architectures.
  • Knowledge of NNSA mission and defense program management processes
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale digital transformation projects in the government or commercial industry sectors.
  • Proficiency in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., UAF, TOGAF, Zachman,).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, APIs, microservices, and digital ecosystems.
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical mindset.

How you Can Stand Out:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Certification in digital transformation, cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Azure), or project management (e.g., PMP, Agile).
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies like AI and Machine Learning Algorithms.
  • Experience working on NNSA large-scale weapons programs across NNSA Labs, Plants, and Sites (LPS).

Location: On-site (either Albuquerque or Crystal City), Remote, or Hybrid options possible
