The strategic objectives of the Department of Meetings and Expositions reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise.

Job Title: Sr. Planner, Digital Meetings

This position reports to the Manager, Meeting Operations (Spring) and is responsible for project management and effectiveness in the planning and execution of digital meetings. The Digital Sr. Planner is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and overseeing virtual programs and initiatives. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to create engaging and effective virtual experiences that meets organizational goals. Key responsibilities include program planning, content development, technology integration, and performance evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serves as the lead for digital product for virtual event production to include vetting and developing virtual event platforms for digital events, creating schedules, and run of show flows. Review resources and provide leadership to ensure that priorities and objectives are met.
  • Program Design: Collaborate with teams to develop, design, and promote virtual programs that align with organizational objectives and audience needs.
  • Content Creation: Create and curate engaging content for virtual platforms, ensuring high-quality and relevant materials.
  • Technology Integration: Utilize and manage virtual tools and platforms to deliver seamless program experiences.


  • Project Management: Oversee the execution of virtual programs, including meeting priorities, timelines, developing and tracking KPIs, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with stakeholders.


  • Performance Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through feedback and analytics, making data-driven improvements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure program success and alignment with broader strategies.


  • Provide technical and customer support
  • Provide customer support during events and possible in-person onsite execution of events.
  • Provide meeting planning support for other events as assigned
  • Other projects as assigned


Qualifications:



  • College degree or equivalent experience; usually has an advanced degree or equivalent experience or certification; 5+ years demonstrated experience working in a not-for profit environment/scientific environment and producing virtual events. Proficiency with virtual platforms and technology tools.


  • DES, CMP, CMM or other Meeting Industry Certifications Preferred
  • Demonstrated Strategic Planning experience


  • Proven experience in program development and management
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Analytical skills to assess program performance and implement improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.


  • Process and project management experience (operational level); Proficient with project management tools such as Asana
  • Understand market and competitive trends and make recommendations to address any changes in the environment.
  • Strong financial management and business acumen
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills for interacting with stakeholders
  • Strategic and creative thinking including experience with new program development
  • Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail are highly desirable;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with focus on collaboration and consensus building between teams
  • Excellent knowledge of industry best practices, procedures, and principles.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends for successful execution of events
  • Travel up to approximately 20% of the year
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and work extended days during events.



This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $80,000 - $90,000 per year.
