    REPORTS TO: Building Principals

    Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

    SUPERVISES: Licensed and Non-Licensed Staff in the respective department

    POSITION OBJECTIVE: Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction in the respective department as well as supervise and evaluate the delivery of instruction in compliance with Board Goals, district and building policies and procedures for the purpose of advancing student equity, performance, and literacy.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Illinois Public Educator License, General Administrative Endorsement, and Teacher Evaluator designation required

    2. Master's degree in education, or a related services field

    3. Teaching or administrative experience in content area

    4. Experience working successfully in a diverse, multicultural environment

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    1. Possess a strong foundation in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and Illinois Learning Standards.

    2. Knowledgeable in planning, organizing, and directing educational assessment services of the District; the laws and regulations relating to testing, assessment, and evaluation; the current research as well as best practices and multiple measures of student achievement

    3. Ability to read, interpret, and explain materials from Board policy, administrative procedures, professional journals, and legal documents, including Illinois School Code

    4. Ability to problem solve, make independent decisions, and effectuate change

    5. Good verbal and written communication skills

    6. Demonstrated leadership ability to work with high school students and adults

    7. Ability to interpret and analyze data, and produce high-quality presentations and documents

    8. Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously, tactfully, and with discretion and good judgment

    9. Ability to interact effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals

    10. Current knowledge of best practices in business, operations, and human resources

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Serve as a member of building leadership team

    1. Provide high-quality leadership to coordinate and improve the student academic and support services provided to students and families.

    2. Provide leadership and vision for implementing systems and practices that promote inclusion, equity, and anti-racism throughout the school.

    3. Lead and serve on the building administrator's leadership team, providing knowledge and expertise about school initiatives and programs, Professional Learning Communities, and the School Improvement Goals.

    4. Assists the building leadership team in the overall administration of the school

    5. Supervise various student events throughout the year including weekends and evenings

    6. Models mutual respect; integrity; professionalism; multicultural awareness; gender, racial, and ethnic equity; and the values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to perform to their highest potential.

    7. Performs special projects and assignments at the direction of the Principal and/or designee.

    Supervises and Evaluates the Performance of Licensed and Non-Licensed Staff Members

    1. Supervises and evaluates classroom instruction

    2. Supervises and evaluates curriculum-related activities

    3. Recruits, screens, hires, trains, recommends for hiring, and assigns candidates

    4. Helps teachers understand the special needs or challenges of individual students

    5. Supports the professional development of staff members

    6. Orients new teachers in the content area, working collaboratively with PAR consulting teachers

    7. Plans, evaluates, and oversees testing programs for assigned curricular area, including common assessments

    8. Follows district evaluation policies and procedures for assigned staff

    9. Recommends for dismissal, tenure, and job assignments

    Coordinates the Review, Revision, and Implementation of Departmental Curriculum.

    1. Facilitates Sender School Articulation meetings

    2. Analyzes student placement and student progress in the content area

    3. Works with teachers to develop curriculum and assessments aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and Instructional Mandates, e.g. learning targets, curriculum guides, and assessments (formative and summative)

    4. Supervises the implementation of curriculum and instructional programs

    5. Supervises and coordinates the ordering, use, and maintenance of departmental instructional materials

    6. Assists in the planning of departmental professional development

    7. Plans and coordinates curriculum night for incoming ninth graders

    Leads the Content Area Department

    1. Implements board policies and procedures

    2. Organizes and coordinates departmental meetings

    3. Keeps informed about current trends and practices in subject fields and instruction and promotes curricular innovation and a culture of professional learning

    4. Collaborates with other departmental leaders to coordinate programs

    5. Participates in activities for continued professional growth

    6. Works to resolve both inter and intra-departmental conflicts

    7. Maintains open communication with parents, parent groups, and community organizations

    8. Represents the district at professional meetings and conferences

    9. Leads staff and provides professional development in implementing culturally responsive teaching and research-based equitable instructional practices

    10. Co-lead curriculum committees with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

    11. Works with principal and building leadership team on school improvement initiatives

    12. Promotes the use of data-informed decision-making in various contexts, including curriculum design, assessment, and evaluation, and oversees the design of student intervention programs that support school improvement initiatives and college and career readiness.

    13. Understands the master schedule and assists in the development of student schedules as well as making student scheduling adjustments as needed throughout the academic school year

    14. Maintains administrative records; prepares reports and correspondence

    15. Serves as a member of the core administrative team

    16. Supervises school-sponsored events; supervises chaperones as assigned

    17. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal

    18. Manages requests for attendance and travel to professional meetings and conferences by assigned staff

    19. Teach course sections when emergencies arise

    Provides Fiscal Management for the Content Area Department

    1. Contracts for purchase and delivery of goods and services

    2. Approves purchase requisitions for the department

    3. Obtains comparative prices and quotations per Board Policy

    4. Manages extracurricular budgets

    5. Prepares and administers the budget for assigned department

    6. Advises the principal(s) on the department's budgetary needs

    7. Prepares and implements grants as appropriate

    Assists with Summer School

    1. Assists the Summer School Principal with planning, evaluating, and overseeing the implementation course curriculum and assessments during summer school.

    2. Recruits, screens, trains, recommends for hiring, and assigns candidates.

    3. Assists the Associate Principal with budgeting for summer school supplies and instructional materials for summer school.

    4. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of summer school.


    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 205 day work calendar with irregular or extended work hours including evenings and weekends.

    SALARY RANGE: Target hiring range for this position will be between $130,000 to $160,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
