Overview

RTI International seeks a prospect for the Biostatistician Internship within the Social, Statistical, & Environmental Sciences (SSES) unit.

This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI's supplemental staffing partner.

RTI's Center for Clinical Research (CCR) provides leadership and support for collaborative clinical research networks and multisite clinical research studies. The Biostatistics program within CCR is comprised of applied biostatisticians with expertise designing and implementing studies that discover new treatments, identify risk factors, and advance health initiatives. We provide comprehensive research support services, including study design, protocol development, implementation, monitoring, quality assurance, analysis, and dissemination.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the process of reviewing protocols and data collection forms, ensuring the study objectives and outcomes are achievable and aligned with the research goals.
  • Learn how to perform data monitoring, cleaning, and apply statistical quality control initiatives to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the research data.
  • Develop skills in tracking metrics, generating reports, and communicating findings effectively to support decision-making and research progress.
  • Learn how to work within a team to organize responsibilities, meet project timelines, and prepare deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing protocol and data collection forms to ensure study objectives and outcomes are achievable.
  • Data monitoring and cleaning.
  • Assisting in statistical quality control initiatives.
  • Tracking metrics and generating reports.
  • Collaborating on statistical research and analysis.
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary team to organize responsibilities, adhere to timelines, and prepare deliverables.

RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences. Interns are exposed to the institute's mission to improve the human condition through projects, professional development trainings, and networking. Program participants have opportunities to engage with staff and fellow interns virtually and in-person. Each summer, interns are encouraged to participate in RTI's annual internship showcase. Additional Information

This is a paid-fully remote internship. The internship is scheduled to start June 2025 and end August 2025. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.


Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled Master's student.
  • Basic knowledge in programming languages (SAS, R) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of data management or analytic experience with SAS/R.
  • Experience in cleaning, manipulating, and reporting results using large datasets.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop novel approaches to enhance programming efficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
