Under general supervision of the Curator of the Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology (MWFB), this position assists with the delivery and coordination of the long-term Putah Creek Terrestrial wildlife monitoring. The Incumbent will assist with tasks required to deliver the vertebrate monitoring program on Putah Creek, including nest boxes, avian surveys, and bat surveys. The Incumbent will conduct federal bird banding efforts on the creek, including training and mentoring undergraduate student interns. Other general responsibilities include: working with undergraduate field teams, gathering data on nesting birds, developing and executing banding schedules, preparing data for analysis, conducting avian abundance surveys, and carry out bat monitoring. The Incumbent will be asked to prepare annual reports for dissemination to funding partners and cooperating private landowners. Lastly the position will manage data and work with professional staff on publications. The Incumbent will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Department Overview The Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology is a research facility in the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology. Its role is to support teaching and conservation of vertebrate natural history and biology through active research, hands-on education, and by maintaining a museum dedicated to documenting and understanding species taxonomy, life histories, and biogeography. The UC Davis Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology houses over 60,000 specimens that are used for teaching and research at UC Davis impacting over 40 courses reaching almost 3,000 students annually. The MWFB manages the Putah Creek Terrestrial Biomonitoring program with long-term support from the Solano County Water Agency. This long-term program supports teaching and research goals of the University and partners. POSITION INFORMATION
