Qualifications



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of custodial experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of safe handling of equipment, chemicals, and materials used in custodial duties.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, and other custodial duties.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to understand simple verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Possess a positive attitude, work well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters, and be well organized and efficient.
  • Computer literate; including email, web-based timecard system, and basic word processing.
  • Must pass The Salvation Army background checks, possess valid driver's license, and meet the MVR driver's qualifications.
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and Safe From Harm training must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.



Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for performing cleaning, minor maintenance, and grounds keeping duties for the Corps. The Custodian will also assist with setting up and tearing down for events, distributions, and seasonal actives. Additionally, the Custodian is responsible to assist with driving for the daily donation pickups. This is a regular part-time position with a work week expectation of 20 hours.

$15.57 - $16.00 / hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
  • Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.
  • Engage all community members in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, events, and Pathway of Hope.
  • Follow custodian specific schedule/task list as assigned by the Facility and Fleet Supervisor and/or Corps Officers. Assigned areas may include the Child Development Center, Kitchen, Gymnasium, Lobby, Offices, Halls, Bathrooms, Entrances, Exterior Areas, Chapel, and Dining Hall.
  • Perform custodial related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions such as mopping, sweeping, trash/recycling removal, cleaning glass, disinfecting surfaces, and vacuuming.
  • Complete all tasks in a safe manner, using the appropriate cleaning supplies and storing them appropriately after use.


Additional Duties:



  • Assist colleagues, volunteers, and guests with custodial and maintenance requests.
  • Responsible for maintaining outdoor property, including mowing the lawn, weeding, sweeping sidewalks, snow shoveling, salting icy areas, etc.
  • Move furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with set up and tear down for regular and seasonal activities and events.
  • Assist with picking up daily donations as requested.
  • Inform the office, in writing, when low on supplies so that more might be ordered.
  • Restock items as needed.
  • Report property and safety concerns to supervisor immediately.
