Basic Function

The Process Safety Assurance Team (PSAT) Lead is the leader for the LYB Bayport POTBA site process safety assurance team. The primary focus for PSAT team will be field support for operations to champion process safety programs/systems within the site to drive awareness and ownership at the front line level and to strive for excellence in process safety performance. The PSAT lead will be expected to identify improvements to existing programs, identify new opportunities, and implement improvement solutions. The team will support operations by driving strong operational discipline practices, providing feedback on performance at all levels in operations, coaching/training of new hires, and other continuous learning activities. The individual will interface primarily with operations and technical organizations, but will have a diverse group of customers including engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, HSE, and corporate process safety.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the Process Safety Assurance Team members, including engineers, specialists, and technicians.
  • Develop the PSAT goals and objectives, and manage personnel to achieve the group goals.
  • Measure and report key process safety and operational discipline performance indicators and implement processes that drive improvement. Incorporate HOP principles to drive excellence in site operational discipline practices.
  • Coordinate process safety knowledge sharing across the site and within LYB.
  • Partner with operations and training organizations to champion and lead development and delivery of operations new hire training, provide feedback to operations on new operator performance and development, and assist with training/roll out of process changes.
  • Develop and execute process to measure operations process safety and operational discipline performance and provide coaching / feedback to operations on individual unit performance.
  • Partner with operations to develop and maintain the unit training manuals, evaluation tests, and provide consistency in the technician panel review process across the site.
  • Manage and coordinate PHA and HAZOP process and activities at the site.

Min. Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing facility. Engineering degree or operations leadership experience is required.
  • Awareness of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of PHA, HAZOP, or other risk assessment processes and supporting/related technical subjects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Operating Discipline and its' application to an operating unit.
  • Working knowledge of Operations Technician qualification process, and training and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and the ability to present complex topics in a concise manner.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple functions to achieve process safety goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
