Given this context, the faculty in the Department of History, Politics, and Social Justice invites applications for a nine-month lecturer of History in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education with a start date of August 2025. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, serving as a faculty advisor, mentoring and coaching students inside and outside the classroom, participating in departmental, College, and university meetings. |

Department Required Skills |
We welcome candidates with a background in History or related fields who will work collaboratively across our undergraduate degree programs in History, Justice Studies, and Political Science. The ideal candidate would be able/willing to regularly teach world histories
HIS 1300-level courses; U.S. History to 1865 and African American History to 1865.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research interests that include but are not limited to historical approaches to the study of race, social protest, political activism, and public policy; African or African American cultural, gender, social and economic history; the African Diaspora; Latin American history; historical geography; public history, museum studies, and archive-based research methodology.
Candidates must possess the following requirements for consideration:
- Applicants must have a Master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in History, or a related field by the time of appointment from a regionally accredited college/university
- Candidates must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, and they must illustrate effective interpersonal skills
- Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively across our undergraduate degree programs in History, Justice Studies, and Political Science with colleagues to develop and expand a cross-disciplinary course offerings and enhance co-curricular programs

Preferred years of experience, skills, training, and education for this position include:
- Greater than 2 years of teaching and/or industry training experience in American and world histories, public history, museum studies, and archive-based research methodology: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars
- Teaching/training experience in a post-secondary institution
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
- Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems

- The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in History and cross-disciplinary courses either face-to-face or online and must communicate continuously with students while monitoring student progress for student success.
- The successful candidate must construct sufficiently detailed course syllabi prior to the first class.
- The successful candidate will teach each class section, create and present relevant course activities, assess assignments by providing written feedback in a timely fashion, and evaluate student performance.
- The successful candidate must hold office hours each week.
