Located in Winston Salem, UNCSA is a conservatory and one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system. The university community consists of more than 1,200 students ranging from middle school to graduate school. The school of Design & Production is one of the five collegiate level training programs (along with Drama, Dance, Music and Film). The school has 321 students, 32 full time faculty and 12 adjuncts.
Primary Description of Work
The Associate Dean of the UNCSA School of Design and Production will serve as the principal deputy to the Dean. They will support the Dean in defining and implementing an overall vision for the school as a national leader for training Technical Artists to successfully work in various entertainment outlets, including live theater, film and television, and global entertainment. The Associate Dean serves as a managerial and administrative bridge between the Dean, the faculty, and the students, ensuring that the organization's day-to-day operations run smoothly and are in service to the mission, vision, and values. In addition, the Associate Dean will support the organization in ongoing curriculum revision to adapt and evolve to the rapidly changing environment of the global entertainment industry. The Associate Dean must have sufficient knowledge of industry trends to enable stronger cohesion of curricular initiatives around preparing students for successful entry into the industry.
Work Schedule and hours
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Management & Leadership (50%)
* Assists in managing the staff and operations of the Dean's Office.
* Accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of D&P, including the materials and equipment, faculty, and facilities.
* Responsible for managing the Student and Faculty orientation and onboarding.
* Oversees SACS Accreditation and Assessment processes throughout D&P.
* Temporarily assumes the responsibilities of the Dean in their absence.
Administration (25%)
* Produces necessary reports and supporting documentation for the credentialing of incoming faculty as required.
* Course and classroom Scheduling
Faculty & Student Support (25%)
* Provides the necessary support to faculty and students' adherence to organizational and administrative policies
* Provides unbiased support for issues between students, faculty, and the administration.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years prior experience in a management capacity.
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Proven track record managing the people and operations of an organization of similar or greater size.

Prior office and administrative management
Familiarity with the academic setting and production environment.
Mild temperament, open mind, and unbiased approach to people management and problem-solving.
Strong attention to detail, especially regarding administrative paperwork and policy.
Prior experience and proven capacities working in global entertainment and adjacent industries.
