Job Summary

The Inpatient Acute Care Cardiology NP has clinical, procedural, administrative, and educational responsibilities in the care of patients requiring cardiac care. Under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiology and the Heart & Vascular Manager for Inpatient Cardiology Advanced Practice Providers and the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing, the Cardiology NP will have a critical role in the inpatient setting, with both team member and individual duties. These responsibilities will include acute care management, provision of cardiology consult on the acute care level patient as requested, as well as pre and post procedural patient examination and assessment, diagnosis, and management of care including but not limited to planning; treatment implementation, coordination and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners. The NP will manage patients cooperatively with interns, residents, fellow and faculty to provide consultative care, promote patient access, continuity of care, facilitate diagnostic testing and intervention, and coordinate a comprehensive discharge.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $95.73 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

NP 1

  • Completion of a clinical rotation with inpatient general cardiology APP team and/or have a minimum of 2 years of prior cardiac ICU RN experience managing complex cardiac patients
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined

NP 2
  • A minimum of 1 year of adult Cardiology inpatient and/or outpatient care experience as a nurse practitioner or completion of an NP acute or critical care fellowship
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience with point of care ultrasound
  • Recent experience managing moderate to advanced heart failure patients
  • NP experience in a high volume academic center

License/Certification


  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
    • Accepted Certifications for this position: ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC
  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license with schedules 2-5 to a California address and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Current AHA BLS.
  • Current AHA ACLS.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.


UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
