Position Summary Storage/SAN Engineer provides the technical delivery consulting role in the Infrastructure and Application Delivery lifecycles from detailed design, integration, maintenance, and upgrades of storage hardware, software, and standards across the enterprise as it relates to the OSUMC on-perm and cloud storage. The storage/SAN Engineer defines and follows discrete procedures and protocols to ensure storage integrity and compliance, and monitors storage utilization, user functions, and performance metrics as required. The storage/SAN Engineer analyzes project requirements and solution designs to assure that the product and service are functionally appropriate, technically valid, and well-integrated with on-perm and cloud in accordance with the security, business user requirements, methods, and standards throughout the project lifecycle.   • Understand the organization's storage requirements, including data volume, access patterns, performance needs, and compliance requirements. Design storage architectures that meet the organization's requirements while considering scalability, reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness factors.
  • Evaluate storage technologies and products in the market to select the best fit for the organization's needs. This may include traditional SAN/NAS solutions, object storage, cloud storage, and software-defined storage solutions. Networking concepts related to storage include Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, and SMB/CIFS protocols. Understanding of Cloud storage concepts, including block storage, object storage, file storage, data lakes, and content delivery networks (CDNs) and cloud storage services like Azure Blob Storage, AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Files, AWS EBS, etc., including their features, limitations, and use cases. Proficiency in cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform, including their storage services, pricing models, and management interfaces.
  • Implement data protection, backup, disaster recovery, and security strategies. This involves selecting appropriate backup solutions, encryption methods, access controls, and compliance measures. Fine-tune storage systems based on workload characteristics and usage patterns to optimize performance. This may involve implementing caching mechanisms, tiered storage architectures, or performance monitoring tools.
  • Understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements related to storage infrastructure, such as HIPAA, GDPR, or PCI
  • Pursues methods for increased efficiency, using storage automation principles along with software vendor APIs and custom scripting/programming to develop new practices and processes that alleviate the team from manually completing repeatable tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, system analysis, related study, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of six years of design and implementation experience in IT, with deep knowledge in the following (or similar) technical disciplines: infrastructure and storage design, good understanding of project management, agile principles, and development methodologies; and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, considering technical and architectural debt.
  • Experience delivering presentations to senior-level executives and technical audiences.
  • Exposure to diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments.
  • Skilled at collaborating with SMEs and business owners, following the guidelines, and facilitating decision-making with stakeholders and peers.
