General Summary

This position is responsible for Structures and Concrete operations across the Construction Division including planning, scheduling, cost tracking, and direct supervision to ensure alignment with project needs and Graniterock's Family Vision, Core Purpose, Core Values, Strategic priorities and business objectives.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  1. Comply, understand, and promote safety initiatives to ensure "Safety before All Else."
  2. Assign the necessary resources in order to accomplish successful and timely completion of multiple structures and concrete projects.
  3. Coordinates with Construction Superintendents and Project Teams (PM/PE) to develop and schedule structures and concrete work plans that achieve the safest and lowest cost; ensures work is executed and dispatches are consistent with the agreed work plan.
  4. Partner with the superintendents, dispatch, project management teams, and the construction leadership team to update the structures and concrete resource schedules for all jobs; facilitate the development of and maintain a schedule for all backlogged structures and concrete projects.
  5. Partner with construction leadership team to effectively recruit, hire, retain and develop people so that Graniterock's structures and concrete crews are highly skilled and capable; support the use of trainees/apprentices on paving and will help develop their skills.
  6. Lead and mentor structures and concrete teams to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the Work Plan.
  7. Work closely with project teams to monitor the cost of our structures and concrete work as it is being built. Make necessary adjustments to work plans to improve actual unit cost. Work with the estimating department to strategize as needed on new work so we incorporate known unit costs into current estimates.
  8. Maintain communication with dispatch to ensure accurate and on time dispatches and special crew needs. Ensure field supervisors are timely with their daily dispatches and dispatch is consistent with the agreed work plan.
  9. Review and understand the plans and specification details associated with structures and concrete work.
  10. Ensure structures and concrete field supervisors and operators are completing daily equipment inspections utilizing the phone app.
  11. Ensure crews are trained in best practices to achieve smoothness requirements. Collaborate with project teams and Quality Manager and Engineer to develop work plans that consider smoothness.

Education and Work Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years supervisory or equivalent construction experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members and effectively monitor performance.
  • Understanding of craft employee relations, including the collective bargaining process and relevant employee-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HCSS Heavy Job or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

This position has been identified as a "safety sensitive" role and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing, per the Graniterock Substance Abuse policy.
