Nokia Mobile Networks Space and Defense Tribe explores new technologies for defense and space technologies often requiring new capabilities for Customers, including Commercial Operators, US Government and NATO customers. Critical to those capabilities is Radio Frequency (RF) design.

A Space and Defense RF Architect utilizes their technical and communications skills to deliver design artifacts for highly secure technology products with unwavering professionalism. This includes:



  • Interface with the customers (US Government/NATO and Commercial).
  • Research RF design gaps between potential customer use cases and current Nokia RF system capabilities, propose unique solutions to bridge those gaps.
  • Author Requirements and Design documents for product development per Customer Specifications.
  • Contribute to Nokia Technology roadmaps and Intellectual property.



As part of the team, you will:



  • Provide direction and set expectations for the design and development of 5G-NextG prototype systems geared toward non-traditional 5G and NextG system use cases.
  • Research and evaluate technical approaches for implementing new RF, beamforming antenna, advanced filtering, noise suppression capabilities required to operate within customer-defined use cases.
  • Work with other SMEs to evaluate and propose implementation approaches.
  • Evaluate and author responses to sections of RFI/RFP offerings and Statement of Work descriptions for project partners and 3rd party vendors.
  • Determine RF system requirements, architecture, and design for project deliverables.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex system development.
  • Establish and manage technical partner relationships with third parties required to fulfill project obligations.
  • Contribute to the creation of project work breakdown structure, schedule, and effort estimation.
  • Lead pre- and post-sale customer interactions
  • To provide thought leadership, support business development activities, perform delivery oversight and help manage senior client engagements



Note: Only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role. Preference will be given to candidates who are eligible to obtain a secret level security clearance, given the nature of our customer. No sponsorship or relocation offered for this role.

You must have:



  • At least 10 years of technical RF architect experience in digital signal processing and RF architecture
  • Expert knowledge of antenna pattern synthesis, beam steering methodology, and/or RF system analysis
  • Subject matter expertise in link budget calculations, filter characterization, power minimization, simulation/modeling using MATLAB or similar environment and verification techniques
  • Subject matter expertise of 5G air interface channel structure and features
  • Subject matter expertise of RF propagation and channel models
  • Bachelor's degree required in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering or related
  • Customer and partner/vendor relationship management experience
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • The ability to handle multiple projects concurrently is a must



It would be nice if you also have:



  • Working knowledge of specifications such as O-RAN/CPRI/eCPRI and 3GPP 38.101, 38.104, 38.141, 38.21x
  • Military communication system with RF design experience
