The Financial Consolidations Manager provides administrative and financial expertise to finance and the VCU Health System. This job is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance; financial management; relationship development and other related operations within the finance department.

This position works with the Senior Manager, Financial Consolidations. to ensure reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), governmental accounting standards board (GASB) and/or international financial reporting standards (IFRS), as appropriate.

This role also works with the Senior Manager to prepare consolidated reporting, external reports and oversees the preparation of the consolidated financial statement audit. This job works closely with program leaders and their staff, not only to educate the staff regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.

This position supports the Senior Manager, Financial Consolidations with the CERSA and OSA agreements and assists with oversight of ARIES financial statements and associated accounting processes.

Essential Job Statements

Performance Expectation: Consolidated Reporting

  • Prepares and reviews the activities of the health system for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial consolidated reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, periodic internal audit reviews, and annual external audits.
  • Prepares and reviews consolidated external surveys and state filing requirements.
  • Supports SR Mgr in responding to senior leadership as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate his/her financial needs.
  • Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.

Performance Expectation: Financial System Expertise and Education

  • Attends and participates in the weekly team meetings to improve the accounting systems and effective resolution of problems.
  • Participates in the implementation, management, and testing of new financial and budgeting systems, as well as reviews and tests upgrades and changes to current systems. Attends and participates in the weekly meetings that help to improve the accounting system and resolving accounting system problems.
  • Provides guidance to the finance team to ensure alignment to improve the accounting systems, processes, and effective resolution of problems.
  • Proactively addresses changes to the financial accounting systems to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Assists in the education of VCUHS on financial systems (Workday) through organized trainings and 1:1 meetings as appropriate.

Performance Expectation: Data Integrity

  • Reviews financial condition by using analysis and analytical tools to ensure integrity of the financial reporting.
  • Identifies key areas for additional review and monitoring.
  • Supports others with financial questions and policies, providing direction and assistance with accounting procedures and efficient control and utilization of fiscal resources.
  • Ensures compliance with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Performance Expectation: Communications

  • Effectively and proactively communicates with co-workers, management, department administrators, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains and develops relationships with banks, vendors, and consultants, coordinating services and complex projects that extend beyond the finance department.
  • Demonstrates teambuilding skills in setting goals by focusing on expected outcomes, by developing and motivating staff, by partnering and building relationships with staff and customers, and by balancing individual needs with team needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.
  • Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.
  • Demonstrates effective work behavior by maintaining accuracy in work quality, organizes work activities and sets priorities to achieve maximum efficiency, and completes assigned activities and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Provides assistance to team members.
  • Accepts alternate assignments, as required.

Education Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or closely related field

Preferred Education: Master's Degree Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or closely related field

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure/Certification Required: N/A

Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of previous work experience in general accounting or finance. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Minimum of five (5) years of previous work experience in accounting or finance

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Previous work experience in financial and accounting software applications

Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. Prolonged periods of working alone.
