Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, On-site

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all operational activities of the Harm Reduction Public Health programs, including development and monitoring of the program protocols. This person will maintain the day to day operations of the Project TRUST (PT) harm reduction drop-in and provide onsite supervision in the drop-in and during community outreach. The Coordinator oversees a group of Harm Reduction Outreach Specialists and provides coverage as needed for the Outreach Specialist and Navigator staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support:


  • Under the supervision of the Program Manager, monitors program guidelines and policies
  • Works with Program Manager to evaluate program outcomes and to ensure culturally appropriate continuum of services for clients.

Management:


  • Oversees a team of Outreach Specialists and/or Navigators. Provides necessary ongoing training and technical support
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, coordination and performance of staff.
  • Encourages staff and personally advances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops and maintaining knowledge of industry standards and practices.

Administrative:


  • Maintains a data management system ensuring timely and accurate data collection
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. Purchases products as needed within established budget.
  • Schedules meetings, coordinates audio-visual and technology requirements, orders food/beverages, etc., as needed.

Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist and Public Health Navigator Tasks


  • Conducts street, hospital, and community outreach to provide harm reduction education including safe injection practices, HIV/HCV/STI prevention strategies, and overdose prevention
  • Conducts HIV/HCV/STI/TB testing, counseling and education sessions and links high risk patients to HIV prevention clinical services, public health navigation, and case management services
  • Assist patients with insurance issues, this will mostly be for positive patients
  • Effectively work in a team with community outreach sites and within BMC when necessary

OTHER DUTIES:


  • Performs office related duties such as picking up mail, categorizing and delivering mail, storing and distributing office supplies, handling faxes, scanning, filing, photocopying collating materials, maintaining the update of policy manuals, etc.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, to ensure that exceptional customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital's mission and goals.
  • Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:


  • High School Diploma and 3-4 years of experience in the field of Public Health or Harm Reduction.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements

EXPERIENCE:


  • 3-4 years of experience working with people who use substances, harm reduction, or public health, previous experience maintaining data entry systems preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of current substance use harm reduction practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Motivation and self-direction; ability to prioritize competing responsibilities in fast-paced setting
  • Computer competency, including the ability to enter and access data, required.
  • Phlebotomy trained
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team including clinical and non-clinical staff Effective leader able to give direction to staff

This position is grant funded through 6/30/2025. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
