The Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) Program:

The MMH program at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration prepares creative thinkers for careers where business, hospitality, and innovation meet. Students learn business management fundamentals and apply them through the lens of exceptional service-all while tapping into a dedicated professional network. This master's degree program combines required courses in hospitality business, immersive industry experiences, and specialization options. The program is completed in three semesters (fall, spring, fall) and requires a summer internship.

Assistant Director for Graduate Programs, MMH Opportunity:

This position is primarily responsible for the Cornell Nolan School Master of Management in Hospitality program. Reporting to the Nolan School of Hotel Administration's Director of Student Services, with a dotted line relationship to the School's Academic Director of the MMH Program, the Assistant Director for Student Services directly supports and advises students enrolled in the MMH program and serves as a vital member of the Nolan Office of Student Services team. This role must be extremely organized and strong at relationship building.

Heightened organization and communication are key for this position in coordinating tasks and work in serving as the point of contact for student inquiries, advising, and academic support throughout their program from pre-arrival onboarding, to graduation. The Assistant Director works under limited supervision to deliver dedicated support to MMH students by:

  • Collaborating with faculty and the academic director on a regular basis to support the planning, coordination, logistics, and execution of the program to ensure programmatic and operational needs are met.
  • Create processes, efficiencies, coordination, guides, and checklists around standard operational logistics of the program.
  • Acts as liaison between faculty, staff, students and university colleagues.
  • Advising a diverse body of MMH students on degree requirements, course plans, and academic procedures to ensure successful completion of degree.
  • Working with students who are facing a variety of moderately complex institutional and personal issues, and connecting them to appropriate resources and support (Cornell Health, Student Disability Services, Financial Aid, faculty)
  • Planning and executing signature events for the program including orientation, industry-focused trips, professional development program, community building, and commencement activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Bachelor's degree with 3 to 5 years' experience in student services/higher education.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and proven experience in event planning and program strategy.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, organizational and time management skills are essential, sound judgment, and follow-through skills with the ability to prioritize and respond in a timely manner to multiple competing projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working directly with graduate and/or professional students in an advising capacity.
  • Experience that demonstrates creativity, sound professional judgment, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work with and represent program, school, and college professionally and ethically with tact, diplomacy, and advocacy, while creating a high-quality and respectful work environment.
  • Aptitude to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community members, all while contributing to an evolving team and embracing change.
  • Exercise a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in dealing with data, records, and information.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekends to support and attend programs and events.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion and wellbeing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or coursework in higher education administration, leadership or related field.
  • Five or more years student advising or related experience in higher education.
  • Experience with program design, delivery, and outcomes thinking.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft, Salesforce, CollegeNet, Microsoft applications, and WordPress, web content management systems.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Ithaca, NY. Salary to commensurate with education and experience.
