Short Intro and About the Job

The purpose of the Medical and Scientific Affairs function is to ensure the company is a trusted partner for healthcare professionals, consumers, payers and other stakeholders through medical credibility and integrity. The team overall provides clinical and scientific expertise to ensure medical excellence and win for Nutricia. Communicating credible information to the medical community and thereby influencing the adoption of Nutricia products is key to the role of the Medical and Scientific Affairs Department.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Ketogenic Diet Therapies is a healthcare professional with extensive patient care experience in ketogenic diet management and who builds on their strong knowledge and deep understanding of medical Ketogenic Diet Therapies (KDT). The role is recognized internally and externally as subject matter expert in KDT and is geographically responsible for the United States and Canada.

The role is responsible for providing medical/clinical expertise to promote the use of Nutricia's KDT products throughout the product lifecycle. The position will leverage knowledge of science and clinical practice to develop credible initiatives aligned with Nutricia's epilepsy/ketogenic diet business. Person will work closely with a cross-functional team including Marketing and Sales. Cross-functional work involves ability to develop strategies to drive business, including successful campaign and product launches, messaging and identifying new areas of business. The position requires working closely with major stakeholders, including key medical opinion leaders, and professional organizations. Person is responsible for assuring medical messaging on products and products uses align with corporate goals. This position requires development of health care education materials, and training to internal and external stakeholders. Role requires ability to co-create with manager a real-world evidence platform resulting in publications and/or presentations at national/international professional conferences.

As such, the function plays a key role in working cross-functionally with the commercial teams through scientific evidence, clinical insights, excellence in external stakeholder engagements and scientific exchange.

The position provides relevant medical and scientific insight and bridges the gap between clinical research/nutrition sciences on the one hand and marketing/sales.

This position is remote and can be based from a home office anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities -

Stakeholder Management:

    Increase understanding of ketogenic diet and product usage in key epilepsy centers
  • Identify, develop, cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. professional groups), key opinion leaders (KOLs) and HCPs in key epilepsy clinics
  • Work with manager on developing strategies for driving national and regional business initiatives, including market shaping initiatives
  • Manage local/regional projects on new business initiatives
  • Support programs for HCP engagement (e.g. ad boards, speaker selection)

Medical Education

  • Lead and manage medical education programs on topics related to KDT based on category business strategy (e.g. Keto University, webinars)
  • Identify and manage local/regional projects on new initiatives
  • Educate key stakeholders on the benefits of KDT in the management of drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) including the usage of KetoCal in DRE
  • Support Keto HCPs in managing DRE patients with KetoCal
  • In-person/virtual clinic visits as needed to support HCPs
  • Present on topics relevant to KDT and Nutricia's KDT portfolio where strategic fit is identified and needed
  • Support medical affairs initiatives at certain local and national conferences
  • Support publications and medical communications initiatives based on category strategy

Product Life Cycle Management and Innovation

  • Competitive knowledge: Maintain active vigilance of competitive landscape and, when required, work cross-functionally to develop response plan.
  • Identify new product opportunities

Medical and Scientific Knowledge

  • Subject matter expert: Provide medical, scientific and technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders to ensure product awareness, medical knowledge and understanding of symptoms, clinical practice and patient experience.
  • Medical messaging: Collaborate with Director to develop scientifically sound and credible medical messaging. Initiate new, competitive messaging based on current and new evidence.
  • Sales Support:
    • Learning and Development Team: Support in-house medical training to the sales force, and participate, as required, in one-on-one visits, meetings and speaker programs.
    • Field visits (Face-to-Face or virtual): coordinated with sales team, active participation in visits with key customers to drive medical messaging where appropriate based on territory strategy.

The base compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000 commensurate with experience. About You

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Clinical experience in pediatric or adult nutrition therapy; expert knowledge in nutritional management of matters related to KDT.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills, speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, has excellent listening skills; seeks input and feedback. Ability to create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to work independently. Self-driven and positive attitude.
  • Initiates, completes projects independently and communicates with Director
  • Keep current on market trends, medical and nutrition practices
  • Knowledge in adult-based learning strategies for HCP education and training preferred
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to form a balanced opinion considering a wide range of information
  • Deliver creative ideas for change and continuous business improvement
  • Excellent organizational skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in nutrition, including clinical work in ketogenic diet management and practical clinical experience with drug-resistant epilepsy patients
  • Registered Dietitian with advanced scientific and/or medical training such as PhD, DCN, RD-AP, MS, or CNSC. NP, RN, Pharm D, or RD's with relevant therapeutic area experience will also be considered.

Working conditions:
Up to 70% domestic travel is required.
