JOB SUMMARY

Serves as the interface between Base Pilot Supervisors assigned to the region and the Chief Pilot. Ensures federal, state, and the certificate holder's regulatory compliance with regard to aviation matters. Advises and keeps corporate flight operations management advised on operational control issues concerning the certificate holder's aircraft and pilot in the region. Works in conjunction with the other Regional Director of Base Operations in mutual management and oversight of the personnel in the assigned region. This position has the expectation that the RDFO can be contacted 24/7 unless a prior coordination and other arrangements have been made.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

* Exercises operational control over company flight operations in the region through the Base Pilot Supervisor.
* Manages pilots in administrative matters and issues of operational control at the base through the Base Pilot Supervisor.
* Has the authority to suspend a pilot without pay, and recommend an employee's termination for cause.
* Works closely with the other Regional Director of Base Operations in mutual management of pilots at the base to include scheduling of base pilots and area pilots to minimize out of service time for pilots, shift and overtime costs as compared to budgets, and pilot attendance to and consistent reporting of base safety meetings.
* Works with the Senior Director of Base Operations identifying new base locations and provides the aviation perspective for base development.
* Completes and submits all required FAA paperwork to the FAA and the Senior Director of Operations prior to base opening.
* Works with Facilities to evaluate OSHA and EPA requirements for the bases.
* Works with the Regional Maintenance Manager to ensure all aircraft maintenance and support needed for those aircraft.

* Other duties as required.

OTHER DUTIES

* Assists Pilot Recruiter and Human Resources during hiring process of new hire pilots.
* Participates in yearly budget and long term planning for the assigned region.
* Prepares and submits yearly performance appraisals for Base Pilot Supervisors.
* Prepares and submits Performance Improvement Plan, if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
* One year experience as an Air Evac EMS, active pilot/employee-preferred

Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Bachelor's Degree-Preferred

Skills:
* Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast paced environment.
* Exhibits professionalism, is ethical and able to maintain confidentiality.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
* Critical thinking skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
