Goals/Objectives of Position:
Primary responsibility is to safely and economically pick up and deliver meals to schools. Actively coordinates with Kitchen Manger and driver assistants to adjust routes for breakdowns, special deliveries, or other needs. Expected to creatively and effectively resolve issues at job sites as they arise while communicating them back to Fresh & Safe. As the primary interface with customers, the goal is to be the 'eyes and ears' of F&S to proactively identify and report issues.
Primary objective is meeting the needs of the customer, measure and manage output, and increase meal participation by 25%.
Essential Duties:
- Works closely with the Kitchen Manager and adheres to the instructions and directions of the Administration department.
- Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver a variety of items related to the operations of Fresh & Safe.
- Safely and securely loads and unloads vehicles with correct type and quantity of food following safety guidelines.
- Responsible for checking road and weather conditions to adjust schedules to ensure safe and timely operation.
- Perform safety inspection of the vehicle before and after each shift.
- Verifies load with Kitchen Manager and Dock Expeditor for last minute changes or special orders
- Completes, checks, and submits paperwork of recorded mileage, gas gauge readings, and condition of vehicle at the end of each business day.
- Ensure food is handled properly to maintain temperatures according to standards and correct any problems.
- Watch for and either address or report any issues impacting the safety, quality, or timeliness of transportation.
- Maintain sanitary vehicle and job site environment to protect customers' health by cleaning and sanitizing work areas.
- Maintain a safe environment to protect customers and co-workers.
- Apply basic principles of food service sanitation and safety for equipment, food and the maintenance of the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Required:
- Quantitative skills generally acquired with a high school education or equivalent work experience.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
- Must have or acquire Serve Safe certification.
Knowledge Required:
- Sufficient knowledge of vehicle mechanical, electrical, and safety systems to maintain fluid levels, identify hazards, and troubleshoot common problems such as dead batteries, blown fuses, worn brakes, worn transmission, and low fluid levels.
- Working knowledge of kitchen operations, food prep, sanitation, site setup, and serving equipment and tools.
- Good knowledge of city streets and planning routes to overcome closures, road repairs, or other situations.
Skills Required:
- Operates a standard or automatic transmission motor vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic.
- Ability and willingness to respond to changing situations and needs.
- Ability to works as a team assisting with identifying problems, problem solving; making routine decisions; assuming responsibility quality of work; and accepting direction, feedback, and training from management.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift a 30-pound load with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Mental effort requires reading and quick response (with minimum error rate).
Considerable walking, climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting.
Other: Permitted to work at schools and other Fresh & Safe job sites
