Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of the organization's network (LAN/WAN) environment, server environment, unified communications and virtual environment. This includes, but is not limited to the installation, administration, and maintenance of servers, software, hardware, firmware, routers, switches, WAN optimizers and firewalls. Perform technical analysis of software and hardware using various diagnostic tools to ensure efficient infrastructure operations. Monitors data traffic and controls network performance. Identifies, diagnoses and resolves technical problems related to network failure/integrity and usage of hardware, software and Enterprise applications.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Escalation point for any issue within the Terracon network.
  • Proactively works with vendors, clients, carriers and technical staff on the network implementation, optimization and ongoing management.
  • Installs, maintains, monitors, and supports new server hardware and software in support of the IT infrastructure.
  • Has solid understanding of Microsoft Windows Server roles such as DNS, DHCP, and ADS.
  • Understands the issues involved with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructure, including network connectivity, Internet access, email, etc.
  • Understands the need to allocate network resources to provide high availability, system responsiveness, and performance.
  • Proactively undertakes routine preventative measures around implementing, maintaining, and monitoring network security.
  • Proactively reviews enterprise systems to ensure their configurations are aligned with best practices.
  • Is able to independently perform regular backups of all critical corporate systems.
  • Independently installs components of a local area network such as hubs, switches, routers, workstations, and printers.
  • Solid understanding of IP Networking as it relates to Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN).
  • Independently engineers enterprise data, WI-FI and video networks.
  • Maintains a secure transfer of data to multiple locations via the internet and internal network.
  • Participates in the long and short term planning and implementing future IT developments and undertaking project work.
  • Monitors use of the internet.
  • Understands and can assist with the maintenance of Group Policy.
  • When applicable, trains technical staff to follow operating procedures necessary to maintain the integrity of the network.
  • Creates and maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.
  • Attends classes, seminars, conferences, and reviews professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments related to Infrastructure systems.
  • Understands the issues involved in administering and maintaining a corporate WAN.
  • Assists in the support of enterprise applications, internal corporate servers, desktops, etc.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts to draw conclusions and propose solutions.
  • Assists with inventory management of hardware and software assets.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre- task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems and 7 years experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 11 years experience.
  • 7-10 years experience in IT/Network administration in the area of engineering LAN/WAN technologies.
  • 7-10 years experience working in a Microsoft Windows Server environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange
  • Experience with virtualization solutions, e.g., VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V, etc.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

  • MCSE certification
  • N+ certification
  • CCIE certification
  • A+ certification or any combination
