Production Technician

Basic Function:

Set up, test, adjust, and shut down manufacturing machinery including but not limited to solder pots, automated jack and connecter machines, and test equipment, using any combination of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or computer technologies. Operate machinery as necessary to meet production output requirements. Assist in all other work centers to meet production schedule. Train new operators.

Significant Responsibilities:

  1. Performs specific job responsibilities:
  • Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to customer specifications.
  • Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Calibrate or adjust equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, or ring gauges.
  • Set up and verify the functionality of safety equipment.
  • Create and maintain work instructions regarding process and equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust production processes or equipment for quality and productivity.
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices, or products.
  • Test products or subassemblies for functionality or quality.
  • Start up and shut down processing equipment.
  • Report faulty equipment and fixtures to maintenance for repair/replacement.
  • Cross train on all work centers in production area.
  • Back up for team leaders when absent.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum 2 years technician experience

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a variety of machine tools and proper maintenance of machinery. Able to read Bills of Materials, Engineering drawings, Technical Specifications, Equipment Technical Publications, and ECN's. Math and handwriting skills and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral. Able to change priorities as directed with ease. Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines are working properly. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and help resolve problems.

Working Conditions: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and must be reasonably ambulatory. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires a sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
