This position reports to the Boardmill Value Stream Manager. Assigned to the Boardmill Value Stream, this position is responsible for providing management, coordination and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process, including, but not limited to: cost targets, schedule adherence, quality processes, manufacturing process capability, maintenance integration, product development initiatives, and overall support to the First Line Supervisors of an operation.

What you will do

  • Execute projects from the Value Stream teams.
  • Facilitate the daily GEMBAs within the Value Stream.
  • Coach the production operators in the use of process control techniques, methodologies, and equipment capabilities.
  • Utilize and coach the 8 Step Problem Solving methodology.
  • Lead a multi-functional Downtime reduction and process control team.
  • Countermeasure follow-up, facilitate RCFAs and complete special cause analysis
  • Coordinate activities around major shutdowns and holiday periods
  • Prioritize daily maintenance activities in the operation
  • Integrate maintenance work and production work around Downdays including prioritizing the work and scheduling production activities
  • Integrate operations with production planning; raw material flow, inventory, packaging, quality of material and GIP.
  • Coordinate new product development (NPD) activities with other VST initiatives and projects
  • Engage outside resources to drive results in operations
  • Provide daily technical support and troubleshooting as needed to assure initiatives of the operation are met
  • Own the process for standard work, specifications, troubleshooting guides and other process documentation
  • Train operators, craftsmen, supervision, and technical resources on how to develop standard work
  • Develop and improve internal plant communication processes between operations, maintenance, lab, logistics, and ABPT
  • Develop and improve manpower utilization processes
  • Drive improvements in operations through effective Downday planning and execution
  • Facilitate the completion of capital projects, with Engineering, to drive results in operations
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability using data analysis to optimize preventive and predictive processes
  • Manage the completion of RCFA's and 8 Step Problem Solving projects in the operation
  • Collaborate with the area Process Engineer to reduce variation and improve control of material streams

What will make you successful

  • BS in Engineering or Science.
  • 3+ yrs in manufacturing required.
  • Project Management and organizational skills
  • Strong equipment and process troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others
  • Effective Written and Verbal Communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of plant business system processes such as: work order process, raw material flow, project planning, production, Downday planning, work rules, or union contract
  • Integration skills to leverage operations, maintenance staff support, internal and external suppliers
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner, Mini Tab, QDC, Data Historian, etc
  • Have working technical knowledge of the following manufacturing technologies:
  • 8 Step Problem Solving
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to pull and work with data sets from multiple sources including Data Historian, QDC, Access, SAP, Power BI and other plant systems to identify opportunities and accurately assess situations.

About the location (Pensacola FL)

Our Pensacola Plant, one of twenty Armstrong plants in North America, employs 200+ people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers worldwide. The Pensacola Plant was originally built in 1929 to produce insulating building material.
