Overview:

The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer will have primary responsibility for administration, maintenance, and operation of Health and Safety and Emergency response programs for Veeco. This is a hands-on role that will assure employee well-being, regulatory compliance, and support of corporate objectives in a semi-conductor manufacturing environment. The position is located in our San Jose, CA location but will support an additional location in St Paul, MN and our Field Service group. This role is responsible for administering Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management, and Risk Management programs; for implementing, managing, and continuously improving practices, policies, and programs that enhance the environmental health and safety of our staff and public; mitigate risks, and meet changing regulatory demands; for the coordination of all risk management activities, to assure proper and adequate protection for Veeco. Reporting to the Senior Director, Real Estate/EHS, responsibilities will be carried out in collaboration with all departments including production, facilities, project management and local state, and federal agencies, as appropriate. This position has a high degree of autonomy and must operate in a complex environment. It requires an understanding of the strategic mission, goals, and objectives of a technology-based company.

Responsibilities:



  • Design and present employee training, as needed, on applicable regulations and EHS topics
  • Program administrator for respiratory protection, hazard communication, hearing conservation, and ergonomics
  • Provide oversight of site emergency response operations and emergency communications, including training, equipment maintenance and compliance records
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all Federal & State OSHA, DOT, state, and local health/safety regulations
  • Manage the hazardous waste program and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Perform Process Hazard Analysis evaluations and Job Hazard Analysis
  • Maintain a regulatory compliance register for each location, report gaps and develop corrective actions
  • Deliver safety reporting and Key Performance Indicators (e.g. Accident Reporting and Investigation, Safety Work Orders, and Near Misses)


  • Serve as the EH&S Committee Chairperson, Incident Commander and point of contact for regulatory and local emergency response agencies
  • Perform site inspections to ensure compliance with EH&S regulations and company policies
  • Work with business unit managers in tracking timely closure of EH&S inspection findings and corrective action items from incident reports
  • Oversee the ISO-14001 program
  • Support the maintenance and operation of air and water control discharge (AWN) systems and arrange for the removal of hazardous waste
  • Other duties as assigned
  • ~15% travel to local Veeco locations



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Environmental Engineering or related fields with at least 5 years of EH&S experience with a chemical or R&D environment. Professional certifications (CSP, CIH) or equivalent is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Demonstrated knowledge in related safety and environmental regulations in chemical or R&D environment


  • Working knowledge of CALOSHA and ISO 14001 management systems


  • Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety and environmental risk assessments and reduction including machinery & process safety, industrial hygiene, fire prevention, ergonomics and environmental controls
  • Experience supporting semiconductor/manufacturing fab operations with similar risks is a plus
  • Experience with EH&S Program Implementation; Inspections practices; Incident Investigation; Hazard/Risk Assessments and EHS Training
  • Good presentation skills, team interaction and project organizing
  • Excellent MS Office skills and other related business software applications
  • Good communications skills in dealings with outside agencies and internal professionals and non-professionals



The expected salary range for this position is $89,885.00 - $113,854.65, plus bonus opportunity. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
