Job Description

At Western Governors University, we're not just building software-we're building the future of accessible, affordable education. And behind every student experience is a powerful network of engineers, systems, and infrastructure designed to scale learning in ways the world has never seen.

We're looking for a Staff Frontend Software Engineer to join our Web Platform team-a group that operates at the heart of that mission. This isn't a typical product role. You won't be building features for users-you'll be building the platform that empowers hundreds of engineers to deliver innovation faster, safer, and with greater impact.

You'll influence how software gets made across an entire university. You'll architect tools that accelerate progress. And you'll do it in service of something bigger: unlocking opportunity for learners everywhere.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and maintain a scalable, shared component library using Angular and TypeScript

  • Lead the development of frontend architecture within a monorepo environment

  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) that support frontend deployment workflows

  • Improve internal infrastructure, including support for module federation and headless architecture

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams across the organization to understand needs and deliver internal tools that improve engineering velocity and consistency

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers within the team

  • Take ownership of identifying and solving infrastructure and tooling inefficiencies proactively

What You Bring
  • Expertise in Angular and TypeScript for building scalable, maintainable frontend applications

  • Deep understanding of modern frontend architecture and tooling

  • Experience building or maintaining monorepos, shared component libraries, or using module federation

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical topics clearly

  • Self-motivated, proactive problem-solver who thrives in an engineering enablement role

  • Proven ability to mentor team members and foster technical growth across the organization

Your Background
  • 9+ years of professional experience developing and maintaining full-stack web applications

  • Significant experience working with Angular and TypeScript

  • Prior experience in a senior or staff engineering role with a focus on frontend/platform engineering

  • Experience mentoring engineers on engineering best practices, code quality, and technical decisions

Bonus Points For
  • Experience with AWS or GCP

  • Background in internal tools, platform teams, or developer experience engineering

  • Contributions to open-source UI infrastructure or internal tooling frameworks
