Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathology (SLP) Supervisor 2 will work to fulfill the department and institution mission including clinical care, education, and research. The SLP Supervisor will supervise professional staff to ensure high-level clinical services are provided in compliance with policies and procedures. Assists with development and implementation of new programs, policies, and procedures, in addition to providing a full array of clinical speech pathology services. Supervises the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. The SLP supervisor oversees clinical care across the OHNS Speech Language Pathology team and is responsible for supervising the development, operation, human resource, administrative, and business functions of SLP staff, SLP student interns and clinical fellows, as applicable. The SLP supervisor will participate in and/or help facilitate clinical research opportunities to advance patient care and the field. The SLP supervisor must be autonomous, a collaborative team member and must demonstrate extraordinary organizational skills, leadership ability, and professional competency.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Masters in the Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of 5 years of post-licensure work experience as a Speech Language Pathologist with specific clinical training and experience in the areas voice, upper airway, and/or swallowing.
  • Completion of a clinical fellowship year an approved institution
  • Interdisciplinary voice, swallowing, and upper airway experience in an outpatient ambulatory setting
  • Demonstrates subject matter knowledge of a rehabilitation service. Ability to apply principles to designated setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training, mentoring and guiding employees in rehabilitation service techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve patient care services. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with assigned staff, patients, and interdisciplinary team members part of the rehabilitation patient care plan.
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and members of the healthcare team across the continuum of care. Skills to actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • Knowledge of organization's patient care documentation technology to teach others, recommend and oversee improvements and troubleshoot issues.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Solid knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge and ability to monitor compliance with relevant rehabilitation patient care / equipment management federal, state and local laws and regulations

License/Certification


  • License as a Speech Language Pathologist in the state of California
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • CPR Certification from the AHA
