Job Summary:
Join the College of Letters & Science (L&S) for a role as a Divisional Post Award Accountant on a team of other Research Services champions. You'll have an opportunity to make a positive impact by becoming a subject matter expert in post award grant management, accounting, and compliance reporting. This is a new initiative with an evolving team as the college implements Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) within L&S. Reporting to the L&S Divisional Administrative Regional Team Manager, you will work as division level post award accountant assisting with intramural and extramural grants administered by L&S and assisting with collaborative grants with other schools, colleges, and centers. The role involves key functions, such as: - Support L&S department grant management by serving as the grant worktag manager for departments and research centers. - Provide key grant administrative support and guidance to principal investigators (PIs) and staff, often working directly with PIs and their research teams. - Send regular financial reports to PIs and departments on the status of grants and is responsible for financial compliance. - Serve as a liaison to Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) on post-award issues and needs.
L&S is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities; natural, physical, and mathematical sciences; social sciences; and the computing, data, and information sciences.
Responsibilities:
Works with researchers, departments, and centers to monitor and reconcile data for sponsored programs at the school/college/divisional level. Reviews and approves financial transactions submitted from departments or centers. May interact directly with project sponsors related to detailed financial reporting, invoicing, and/or auditing on behalf of the unit to ensure compliance.
- 25% Communicates and ensures financial requirements per federal, state, university, and sponsor regulations are followed on behalf of the school/college or division
- 25% Ensures the departmental or divisional post-award processing or tasks are done appropriately and timely
- 20% Reviews and approves financial transactions such as managing fiscal closeout of awards and projects
- 10% Advises departments or researchers on appropriate post-award modifications and relevant processing
- 20% Collects or prepares documentation required for compliance or audits on sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements

Education:
Preferred Associate's Degree Preferred focus in financial, project planning or related degree area
Qualifications:
Required: - Experience interpreting and analyzing financial data and effectively communicate summarized results - Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills; experience identifying and solving problems using sound judgement and discretion while applying and interpreting laws, rules, policies, and procedures - Excellent administrative and organizational skills prioritizing and delegating tasks, managing competing deadlines, and paying attention to detail - One year experience in a financial support role
Preferred Qualifications: - One year experience in research administration - Experience working with systems such as: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) like systems, such as PeopleSoft or Workday, accounting systems like WISER; and sponsor systems like grants.gov or eRA Commons - Experience offering guidance, outreach and monitoring for compliance regarding complex research admin and/or fiscal policies in higher education, governmental or other highly regulated setting - Familiarity with Uniform Guidance, UW research administration policy, and sponsor guidance like the NIH Grants Policy Statement, and NSF PAPPG - Experience with improving processes and/or managing change

Salary:
Minimum $56,112 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The typical starting salary for this position is $57,000- $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
