Overview

The Executive Director of NBS Business Operations, under the guidance of the Deputy Managing Director of Operations and Performance Excellence and in collaboration with Newborn Screening (NBS) leadership, is responsible for providing strategic and operational business leadership for designated NBS product lines. This includes overseeing the execution of sales, business development, consulting, product development, and service delivery.

In this role, the Executive Director of NBS Business Operations will address current business challenges while fostering an environment that encourages creativity and business growth. Together with the NBS leadership, they will lead the operational component of program development, planning, and service delivery initiatives, and integrate the expertise and skills within ForHealth Consulting to drive business expansion.

The Executive Director of NBS Business Operations will work with NBS leadership to ensure alignment between NBS business and operational priorities with ForHealth Consulting's strategic goals, ensuring optimal allocation of capital, talent, and operation expenditures. Working closely with NBS scientific leadership, this role involves managing and directing a diverse portfolio of local, state, federal, and international NBS contracts and grants, with a strong focus on quality service delivery and customer satisfaction.



Responsibilities

In partnership with the NBS leaders, the Executive Director of NBS Business operations will:

Strategic and Financial Leadership:

    Develop and implement long-term business strategies that align with ForHealth Consulting's overall goals.
  • Lead high-level strategic initiatives in collaboration with ForHealth Consulting executive leadership to identify new revenue streams and improve service delivery, while maintaining alignment with institutional goals.
  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives related to the expansion of NBS services, consulting, and technical assistance opportunities.
  • Ensure full operational and fiscal compliance, including budget development and reporting requirements.

Business Development and Client Relationships:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in federal, state, international markets, and the private sector.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and partners as identified.
  • Partner with key clients to design innovative solutions and service enhancements that drive business growth and elevate ForHealth Consulting's competitive edge in the market.

Budget and Financial Management:

  • Oversee the annual budget, manage monthly financial reports, forecasts, and corrective actions.
  • Guide financial health by ensuring sound fiscal management, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and driving profitability in core business lines.
  • Conduct in-depth market analysis and financial forecasting to uncover potential growth areas and optimize financial performance across the division.

Operational Efficiency and Process Improvement:

  • Manage labor, operating, and capital expense budgets, ensuring proper allocation of resources.
  • Analyze and improve administrative systems for increased efficiency.

Develop and implement comprehensive process improvement activities to streamline operations and implement inventory control systems.

Staff and Technology Management:

  • Develop and execute staffing plans for program staff.
  • Manage vendor contracts.
  • Oversee purchasing and supply management to ensure cost-effective use and ordering of supplies.

Communication and Compliance:

  • Communicate regularly with executive and operational leadership about NBS business lines, operations, budgets, and activities.
  • Support the NBS Executive Director with IT systems and tools for laboratory process improvement and future expansion. Adhere to University, State, and funding agency regulations.

Human Resources and Professional Development:

  • Oversee human resources support, including staffing, recruitment, counseling, compensation, and benefits.
  • Foster a positive workplace climate and support employee retention.
  • Support a culture where the team can be consistently focused on the best outcomes for the newborns, the families, the facilities, and the organizations that they serve.
  • Support professional growth and development of staff, ensuring the team is positioned for success in achieving both short-term and long-term business objectives.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Master's Level degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Management, Public Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8-10 years as academic or healthcare operations leader, including fiscal management responsibility.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing operations within a healthcare or clinical setting
  • Demonstrated success in business development, including identifying growth opportunities, managing sales, and expanding service lines.
  • Strong background in financial management, including budgeting, financial forecasting, and variance reporting.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution, with a track record of aligning business operations with organizational objectives
  • Experience in managing and directing multiple contracts or grants at local, state, federal, and international levels.


Additional Information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in laboratory or scientific operations, (including CLIA).
  • Substantial experience working with state governments and public agency leaders, in roles requiring senior-level responsibility.
  • Deep expertise in the healthcare business sector including state and federal agencies (Medicaid, Medicare).
  • Experience and expertise in managing organization-wide projects and domains.
