Job Summary:

Join the School of Nursing's Academic Affairs team as an Academic Advising Manager! In this pivotal role, you will be at the heart of student success, overseeing the daily management of programs, services, and activities that empower pre-nursing students to thrive. You will provide comprehensive advising to pre-nursing undergraduate students while collaborating closely with our dedicated advising team. You will foster seamless communication and support by actively engaging with university departments, educational institutions, the community, and external agencies. As an integral part of our passionate advising and student services team, you will help foster an inclusive and thriving community for students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds.


Responsibilities:
Engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters, such as course selection and degree requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development of academic advising related programming. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Supervises unit staff and/or manages an advising services portfolio and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

  • 15% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
  • 30% Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
  • 5% Develops and implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
  • 5% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
  • 10% Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities of a function within the advising or academic services portfolio, such as program management and/or curriculum management
  • 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • 5% Proactively engages students as needed
  • 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
  • 20% Supports student services programming including, but not limited to: SOAR programming, study abroad and immersion programs, transfer student coordination, student organizations, and students' success efforts

Qualifications:

Required:
-Two years of experience working in an academic advising (or similar) setting with oversight of student services programming, including preferable experience with admissions
-Ability to work independently and in a team setting to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Preferred:
-Experience with advising STEM students
-Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite, Google suite, and Student Information System


Work Type:

Part Time: 70%

This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor.

Minimum $58,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $58,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and other paid time off, competitive insurances and savings accounts, and employer sponsored retirement benefits.
