Job Summary The Managing Senior Director of Development manages a comprehensive fundraising program supporting the UC Davis Children's Hospital. This position manages a fundraising staff comprised of both professionals and related administrative support, and provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. The Managing Senior Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Children's Miracle Network program as well as all local partners/businesses and community donors who support the Children's Hospital. This includes all fundraising activities, including developing and executing fundraising strategies with national, regional and local corporate/business partners and individual donors. This position is individually and unit metric-driven, and is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established through an annual business planning process aligned with the assigned portfolio both as an individual and collectively for the unit. This position is focused on developing and managing new and fostering established donor relationships. Guided by a "donor centric" approach, the incumbent will strategically solicit gifts and steward existing ones using various communication methods, including in person, video, texting, phone, social media and virtual visits. This position requires good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, and works independently, collaboratively, and collegially as part of a diverse, matrix organization. - Bachelor's Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Significant fundraising experience, preferably in a higher education environment; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of leadership / management concepts, procedures, techniques and best practices. Significant experience leading teams, managing major gift officers, and other professional development staff.
- Professional fundraising leader with expert knowledge of and experience with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship. Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts. Successful track record developing strategic relationships with high value individuals.
- Expertise in major gifts ($50K+) prospect portfolio management as a frontline fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift fundraising.
- Substantial project/program and people management skills, including skill in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
- Expert political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and subject matter experts, to develop collaborative working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals.
