The Treatment Plant Operator, PT-19 Trainee - Water learns to operate equipment related to water or wastewater treatment plant processes including clarifiers, belt filter press and sludge thickener units under close supervision, makes checks on equipment to see that it is operating properly. Learns to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and assists plant maintenance crew on maintenance projects. Performs a variety of cleaning tasks in areas or structures, such as chemical rooms, chemical feed equipment, various water treatment units, pumping stations, electrical rooms, secondary containment areas, and general grounds keeping. Some knowledge of the general operating principles and practices and the maintenance requirements of mechanical and electrical equipment similar to the types utilized in water treatment plants. Ability to understand and follow specified operating and recording procedures. Ability to analyze problems and identify possible solutions. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division. Ability to learn/perform a variety of work activities associated with the operation and maintenance of a variety of pumps, valves, filters, and related equipment associated with water treatment systems.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License class "E" or higher for duration of appointment.
Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in a water or wastewater treatment plant operator certification program and have experience with hand tools.
General Description
Performs support duties in an agency in order to gain knowledge, skills and professional experience. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures and work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports.
Employees participating in the Trainee Program/Classification receive hands-on work experience and on-the-job training, which may be supplemented by related educational activities. These activities may include participation in County training or skills development programs, requisite external educational coursework, and/or completion of certificate programs.
Through this Trainee Program, an individual who does not meet all minimal requirements for a specific job classification has an opportunity to gain the job experience and/or training necessary to qualify and potentially transition into the job classification.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
To be eligible for participation individual must be at least 18 years of age and able to comply with all applicable County employment guidelines.
Must also be able to fulfill the minimum job requirements of the associated job classification the employee is training for within a maximum of two (2) years from the date of hire.
