The Patient Advocate coordinates activities to ensure that Medicaid process eligibility for self-pay patients and other underinsured patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients and others to complete forms, applications, and other paperwork.
  • Collect and review patient information to determine patient's eligibility.
  • Prepare documents, review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical assistance on agency issues, services, and programs.
  • Maintain and/or create files or record keeping systems. Sort, label files, and retrieve documents or other materials.
  • Interact with patients at the site to provide real-time service support, address patient concerns.
  • Develop and retain professional relationships with hospital staff.
  • Handle caseload, retrieve, sustain, and communicate all designated reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of work experience in health care, medical insurance, hospital, or clinic
  • High School or GED required; associate degree or equivalent from 2-year college a plus.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced diverse environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and hospital staff.
  • Ability to travel locally to other work sites.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel pivot tables, Project, and PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes.

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2025.

The hourly rate for this position is between $18.00 - $21.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
