POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Afognak Native Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Controller to join our Finance Department.The Assistant Controller will provide high-level support to Corporate Controller in a multi-organizationAlaska Native Corporation doing business with the federal government, as well as various commercialoperations. This position requires a highly motivated individual focused on continual processimprovements of handling day-to-day accounting functions and process workflows.



  • Assists with Company's monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process to ensure reportingrequirements are met.
  • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional peers and lead the Finance team to collaborate with others throughout the company.
  • Assist with the development, enhancement and implementation of accounting policies andprocedures to improve overall operation and efficiencies and reduce risk of the business.
  • Develop and assist with external auditing policies, procedures and data collection.
  • Develop and assist with GAAP and FAR applications across all departments.
  • Completing, reviewing, and monitoring monthly reconciliations.
  • Assist with sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliation and complete required journal entries.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Complete consolidation entries related to majority and minority owned entities.
  • Develop management and leadership skills within the Finance department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Pay Range:$115,000 to $135,000 Annually

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • 3+ years experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller, or in public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, demonstrated by experience oreducation.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting processes.
  • Ability to identify efficiencies and lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills and collaboration with corporatestakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.


Preferred Qualifications or Skills:



  • CPA designation preferred
  • Public accounting experience in the audit preferred
  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations preferred
  • Experience with Costpoint ERP preferred.
  • Experience with FAS fixed assets software preferred
