Role Overview: This role provides overarching occupational health and safety expertise to one of Apex's most valued national clients. Apex has worked hand-in-hand with this client to help them achieve their occupational health and safety, ergonomic, and safety engineering goals. This role will be a full-time, hybrid position with 50-75% travel performing site visits to new and remodeled buildings. The expected duration is March through December with the possibility of extension if there is a need and available budget. The safety specialist will implement employee health and safety regulations, policy, and procedure for emerging and redesigned facilities and support management of the client's health and safety programs. The safety specialist will be highly knowledgeable of applicable federal and state occupational safety and health regulatory requirements. The role will routinely involve a blend of: 1) Planning and coordination with building designers, construction teams, and launch teams to review site and equipment designs and ensure company and regulatory safety requirements are met, 2) Travel to sites at key milestones to inspect progress via checklists and client company processes, and 3) Communicating with stakeholders in design, construction, operations, and the client EHS community to maintain safety compliance. While the prominent technical expertise associated with this position is occupational health and safety, general knowledge of design and construction will be highly valuable. The right candidate will be a savvy communicator able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders. Perhaps most importantly, the candidate will be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as a team to produce results. Your Responsibilities as an Apex Occupational Health and Safety Professional: * Provides full-time on-site support for EHS needs at multiple client sites. * Represents Apex excellence to client stakeholders. * Plans, implements, and assesses occupational health and safety programs and processes to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. * Interprets and advises on the impact of regulations to company operations. * Evaluates and provides selection advice on existing or emergent risk management control technologies. * Leads audits, inspections, and investigations and coordinates resolution of issues. * Develops corrective action plans to respond to internal and external audits and inspections. * Works with management to facilitate risk management decisions. * Analyzes emerging technology for the identification of potential hazards and control methods. What we're looking for: * Bachelor's degree and 3-10 years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master's degree and 2 years' related work experience) * Good interpersonal and organizational skills * Ability or willingness to learn to read architectural CAD site and building plans and check safety regulations against plan set * A great deal of creativity and self-starter initiative. This position entails routine ongoing work and negotiation with numerous customer stakeholders, all of whom need to be satisfied with respect to project purpose, scope, and tactics * Ability to balance experience and judgment with the overall work statement provided by the customer to plan and accomplish goals * Comprehensive knowledge of EHS/OSHA/ACGIH and NIOSH regulations and commitment to staying current with changes to laws and regulations that impact the client * Strong technical writing skills * Ability to successfully multi-task * Strong experience keeping records of safe work practices * Experience with data management and report preparation * Valid driver's license (required) * Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Why you want to work at Apex: * Company-subsidized medical and dental * Company-paid life, short, and long-term disability * 401k match, tuition assistance, and more * Cross-training and the ability to work on a variety of projects * Performance-based bonuses or other incentives * 1,800+ employee national firm with 50+ locations across the US Job Location: * Orangeburg, South Carolina. Travel Expectations: * Full time, onsite support (4 days a week, 10-hour days) Compensation: * The annual salary range for this role is $80,000-100,000 (commensurate based on experience). * Travel and per-diem provided for the right candidate.
