Position Summary

Light & Wonder (L&W) is actively in the process of acquiring an organization with land-based Gaming adjacency. The acquisition will be established as a new, stand-alone business unit expanding our global market leadership as the premier developer of technology-based products and services and associated content for the worldwide Gaming, Social and iGaming industries. L&W is currently considering the Southeast region of the US as the headquarters for this new business unit. The footprint of the business and the employee base is concentrated in the US. More information about this exciting venture will be shared in March 2025.

Position Summary:

The Director of People Capability will be a key member of the New Business Venture Leadership Team and will be responsible for consulting on and carrying out the people and culture agenda within the new business unit. The Director will partner with business unit leadership serving as an advisor and executer regarding people strategy and will maximize the impact of people capability initiatives to ensure superior organizational performance and the achievement of business goals. Key competencies include culture champion, simplifier of complexity, accelerator of business objectives, data utilizer, excellent communicator and collaborator, leadership coach and overall, someone who can continually raise the bar on how we enable the business as we scale. Budgetary responsibility includes management of labor and non-labor people-related expenses in line with the BU annual budget. This role will have tremendous impact through helping to sustain the winning culture the business has today, while also shepherding agreed and evolving areas of integration with L&W.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Understands and keeps current on commercial dynamics within the gaming industry as a whole and, more specifically, within the new BU's targeted market.

  • Leads the people and culture programs for this business unit, from bespoke legacy cultural programming to annual review and compensation processes, to annual budget planning and L&D strategies.

  • Will be directly responsible for Recruitment outcomes through direct leadership of Talent Acquisition and/or partnering with L&W's Talent Acquisition teams to ensure growth goals are met with top talent.

  • In partnership with L&W's Rewards team, manages wellbeing, short-term and long-term incentive strategies and programs, owning communication and change management as needed.

  • In partnership with L&W's People Technology & Operations teams, develops and helps to execute the introduction of L&W systems, processes and resources (e.g., People Solutions Center).

  • In partnership with L&W's Talent Enablement & Experience team, strategizes on how and when to benefit from economies of scale and plays a leadership role in projects selected.

  • In all of the above Center of Expertise teamwork, ensures business leadership is on the journey and bought into the pace of change and value propositions of change.

  • Identifies future people capability needs and proactively develops solutions to address any gaps by collaborating with leadership and people capability Centers of Expertise.

  • Partners with BU executives and management teams to identify and develop talent, succession plan and facilitate intentional talent movement across the business.

  • Serve as a trusted change agent who expertly understands and communicates changes while actively capturing feedback and relaying that to continually improve.

  • Fosters an overall positive and productive experience for team members and teams.

  • Implements business change programs which may include mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures, optimization, restructuring or outsourcing initiatives, office relocations or changes, return to work initiatives, etc.

Culture & Engagement

  • Effectively develops and maintains relationships with members of the leadership team to establish and maintain credibility by demonstrating excellent partnership and support.

  • Coaches leadership team and team members to realize full talent potential.

  • Champions the company as a Great Place to Work and seeks to improve the team member value proposition internally and externally.

  • Seeks to maximize team member engagement described as individual and team behavior which reaches optimal productivity and satisfaction.

Employee Relations

  • Deliver effective employee relations support on a day to day operational and strategic basis to support the business.

  • Develops relationships with team members across the business unit and maintains frequent contact to keep a pulse on their sentiment beyond what engagement surveys provide and uses this information to shape management and people capability support.

Organization Development

  • Creates People Capability strategic plans designed to achieve the business unit annual plan, including developing new capabilities where required.

  • Effectively conducts regular individual and group meetings to drive KPO achievement, coordinate work, and collaborate with key stakeholders.

  • Leads organizational design and selection work including refined or new operating models, ways of working, project or program governance, career architecture, etc.

  • Drives leadership development initiatives, ensuring that leaders at all levels have the necessary skills to manage, inspire, and develop high-performing teams at Light & Wonder.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Champion DEI initiatives, collaborating with the Talent team to promote diverse BU hiring practices and inclusive workplace cultures across the organization that retain, reward and advance talent fairly.

Other

  • Travel to regional locations estimated at less than 20% of work time.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience, in Human Resources, Business Administration, psychology or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) a plus.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years of HR experience, with at least 2 years of managerial responsibility managing direct reports in a matrixed, global organization.

  • Strong experience in partnering with senior leadership and managing HR in a complex, cross-functional environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead across global teams and geographies.

  • Experience in the gaming or entertainment industry is a plus.

  • Proven ability to balance and align people strategies with business initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated goal achievement supported by strong project management and leadership skills

  • Proven track record of influencing, leading, and facilitating strategic initiatives affecting multiple stakeholder groups
