JOB SUMMARY |
This position is responsible for the overall operational leadership of Manufacturing Engineers to ensure design, development, procurement, installation, replacement and maintenance of necessary production equipment and facilities equipment required to support manufacturing operations, as well as the Training Supervisor in supporting operations to maintain appropriate and quality training to develop core skills. |
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Support a Zero Accident safety strategy. Focus on Zero Harm (mindset and process design to eliminate risks and ergonomics)
- Administers company policy effectively with minimum employee dissatisfaction.
- Create, coach and manage a team with technical manufacturing capabilities and continuous improvement coaching and leadership skills. Maintains adequate staff with the technical skills necessary to support both long and short term company goals, growth, etc. Provides leadership and coaching to departmental employees and motivates them to attain agreed upon goals. Sets expectations and standards, counsels employees on personal development and conducts performance appraisals as scheduled.
- Prepares annual department budgets and objectives and controls costs within approved budget levels. Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities of the Manufacturing Engineering and Continuous Improvement functions to provide the support required to meet both annual operating plan and strategic objectives for the Waukesha business.
- Responsible for Manufacturing Engineering strategy that supports the new and emerging manufacturing technical needs of company.
- Research, introduce and develop new technologies and process automation to the manufacturing processes.
- Responsible for the design, development, procurement, and installation of manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling required for implementing the manufacture of new and existing product lines or the upgrade of existing processes.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the engineers engaged in plant and departmental layouts, process design, equipment and machinery specifications and procurement, tool engineering, and special projects.
- Directs engineering studies of production methods, procedures, material handling, shop layouts, tooling, workflow problems, etc., and make recommendations for improvement consistent with product quality and costs. Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art developments in the fields of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and makes recommendations for economic, quality improvements in tools, processes or systems.
- Directs the publishing of formal manufacturing procedures to define use of machinery and equipment, manufacturing processes, and operating procedures.
- Assists with the preparation and management of the annual capital budget and maintains capital equipment records. Manages the development of capital appropriation requests and appropriate supporting business justification and communication, insuring they meet company goals prior to submitting them for approval.
- Understands product design and coordinates activities with product design and application engineering
- Develops and maintains a sound general product knowledge and more specific product knowledge relating to application and manufacturing processes, becoming the "expert" in product manufacturing. Provides technical assistance in training and problem solving to production departments.
- Coordinate with application engineering and design-engineering resources to prepare for engineered to order bids are ready for acceptance into manufacturing upon order acceptance.
- Assist the product-engineering managers with product standardization and new product introduction processes to ensure manufacturability.
- Supervise training department. Set work assignments and objectives, set performance and quality expectations, assist employees to resolve production problems, maintain accurate time records, and ensure all employees have current and necessary training; maintain an orderly and safe work environment.

- Proficient in Microsoft applications of Power Point, Excel and Word
- Desirable experience in AutoCAD or Solidworks CAD suites.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Required Education / Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences
- Knowledge of structural, machine tooling, maintenance methods, material handling, etc.
Preferred Education / Experience
- 3 years' experience in the manufacturing engineering field
- Self- starter, high energy individuals
- Candidate should enjoy working in a heavy manufacturing environment with production employees
- Ability to complete tasks after being advised of the general nature, scope and objectives of work to be accomplished with a minimum of technical assistance
- Future impact cost analysis skills
- Strong presentation skills; technical communication skill
