Job Summary:

The Law School seeks a research support staff member who will assist faculty with their research projects, including conducting research, cite-checking articles and other materials, and proofreading and editing articles and other documents. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development, this position will assist with grant applications, analyzing research, and will also support the Great Lakes Indigenous Law Center with its research activities, programming, and communications. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with the Law School Business Office and Dean's Office, particularly on grant submission and awards, be informed on funds, relevant budgets of research programs, and other communications and events related to research centers and scholarly activities.


Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty.

  • 20% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 25% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • 10% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 20% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Provides administrative support to faculty and research centers, assist with scholarly events, and serve on committees as assigned
  • 10% Research-related financial management and keep knowledgeable and informed of relevant university rules and regulations, advise faculty accordingly

Qualifications:

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once.
Excellent legal research skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work closely with Law School faculty and staff on time-sensitive projects.
Ability to work and complete tasks with frequent interruptions.
Computer literacy, proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, basic web editing, Canvas, cloud storage & file sharing services, video conferencing, social media, etc., and willingness to learn new software as needed.
Excellent discretion and independent judgement.
Well-developed interpersonal and human relations skills.
Excellent proofreading skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
