Senior Packaging Engineer (Smith & Nephew, Inc., Mansfield, MA): Responsible for ensuring packaging designs are functional, efficient, and meet the needs of the customer. Design and develop sterile and non-sterile packaging systems for new product development and existing product lines under limited supervision. Coordinate and monitor packaging projects and programs from inception through implementation. Establish appropriate project schedules and prepare project reports periodically to outline progress. Define packaging-related design inputs and requirements through voice of customers such as consultations with surgeons, nurses, or other operating room/hospital personnel. Provide technical packaging support and leadership to multi-functional teams, and lower-level packaging engineers.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Packaging or related field plus 4 years of post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related role in the Medical Device or Biotechnology industry. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Packaging or related field plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or related role in the Medical Device or Biotechnology industry.

Of the required years of experience, must have 3 years of experience if qualifying with a bachelor's degree or 2 years if qualifying with a master's degree, in International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Package Testing Series or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Package Testing Methods.

Of the required years of experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

  • TOPS Software
  • Thermoforming Design
  • Executing packaging design verification testing
  • Process validation of packaging components IQ, QQ, and PQ.

Of the required years of experience, must have 1 year of experience in each of the following:

  • ETO (Engineer-to-order) or Gamma
  • Design validation of packaging systems
  • SolidWorks.

Up to 20% Telecommuting permitted (within MA state).

Must be willing travel up 10% of the time (95% domestic and 5% international) to visit different supplier sites, conferences and internal manufacturing sites.
