Description

Performs a variety of duties required to maintain a safe and secure environment in a school, an alternative learning center, or for adult and community education programs held during or after school, in the evening and/or on weekends; enforces regulations establishing a tobacco-, alcohol-, weapons-, and drug-free school setting; may monitor students in a self-contained setting.

Qualifications

Required

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by specialized safety or security environment training.
• Some experience in school security.
  • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
• Must successfully complete compulsory certification training approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety within sixty (60) days of hire and renew certification annually.
• Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
• Required to work during- and after- school, evening, and/or weekend activities on an assigned flexible schedule.
• Knowledge of local, county, and state regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons-, and tobacco-free environment.
• Skill in record keeping.
• Ability to control students and maintain a healthy school environment.
• Ability to monitor students and maintain appropriate task-oriented behavior.
• Ability to act as a liaison between students and teachers.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

$33,699 - $56,885
