Job Summary:
The Arlington Agricultural Research Station (AARS), located 20 miles north of Madison, supports a wide cross section of crop, animal and natural resource research. This position has primary responsibility for coordinating all aspects of crop protection activities on the 2000-acre complex which includes over 300 crop research projects. Other duties include assisting with daily station management and grain marketing for the stations. This position supports the Superintendent in budgeting, cost recovery, personnel, outreach and overall station management and is responsible for the operation of the Station in the absence of the Superintendent. This position will serve as the station safety coordinator to arrange necessary trainings and maintain records for station employees. This position is also responsible for managing the Wisconsin Foundation Seeds (WFS) program. WFS, an auxiliary program of the research station, is responsible for the production, conditioning, sales and distribution of Foundation seed stocks to seed producers in Wisconsin and several regional states.
Responsibilities:
Plans and leads operational, outreach, and promotional activities of a research program and serves as a subject matter expert.
- 50% Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of one or multiple research programs or units according to established research objectives in alignment with strategic plans and initiatives
- 5% Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
- 15% Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims
- 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 10% Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
- 5% Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
- 5% Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program
- 5% Applies pesticides in accordance with best practices and established rules, policies, and regulations.

Education:
Preferred Bachelor's Degree Preferred in Agronomy, Soil Science, Biological Systems Engineering, or closely related field.
Qualifications:
Required: -Experience with independently performing crop pest management including scouting, pesticide selection, integrated pest management, monitoring rotational intervals, and avoiding resistance.
Preferred: -Experience with crop management including seed and trait selection, field selection, planting, crop growth, and harvest. -Experience with precision agriculture including autosteer, guidance, height control, pulse modulation, and target spraying. -Experience with commercial seed production including planting and harvest, processing, certification, and distribution. -Experience with leading an agricultural safety program. This may include identifying safety hazards, training employees, and maintaining compliance.
License/Certification:
Preferred Pesticide Applicator - State Licensure Hold Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification or obtain within one year of hire.
Preferred Hold Certified Crop Adviser certification or obtain within one year of hire.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Normal hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.

Minimum $71,994 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications Salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Working Conditions: -Will be required to regularly lift up to 60 lbs. and climb heights to 60 ft. Must be able to work in dusty and moldy conditions.
