Summary:
Under general supervision of the Laundry Manager directs activities of a group of Linen Service employees who perform a variety of functions to ensure user departments have adequate supply of clean linen on a daily basis. Performs the work of a Linen Service employee as required.

Responsibilities:
Supervises daily activities of subordinate personnel who perform various functions including linen assembly clean linen transport and soil linen transport. Orients trains develops schedules assigns and appraises staff. Trains employees annually on current duties correct procedures hazard avoidance and customer relations. Counsels and assists subordinates with work related problems verbally disciplines and recommends further action to manager. Maintains employee files related to job performance. Performs job interviews and makes recommendations for selection of subordinates.

Prepares employee work schedules ensuring production meets user demands with manpower available. Establishes work priorities and may change schedules and reassign subordinates in order to process special orders or requests. Prepares and maintains attendance records on subordinate employees.

Ensures rolling carts and equipment are maintained in a safe clean and workable manner. Performs minor maintenance on wheel assembly such as cleaning. Refers major repairs to the Maintenance Department when necessary.

Ensures work is carried in accordance with safety procedures. Labels and ensures correct labeling of chemicals ensuring appropriate use of same in accordance with safety and department regulations and procedures.

Maintains required statistics on linen usage by user area and department.

Visually inspects linen going to user departments to ensure proper quality. Investigates and corrects deficiencies.

Randomly inspects exchange carts being prepared for user areas or departments to ensure linen supply meets the daily par.

Interacts with Hospital personnel and resolves issues regarding immediate linen needs. Identifies other potential problems and works to resolve said problems. Reports unresolved problems to the manager.

Prepares payroll for the department. Prepares employee data changes as appropriate.

Conducts and assists with the system wide linen inventory. Coordinates and communicates said inventory with user departments areas and the Brown University Health Central laundry Department.

Monitors the accuracy of linen usage by user department into the Linen Management software program. When necessary performs entry of linen usage into the Linen management software program by the user department. Prepares usage and other related linen reports accurately and in a timely manner.

Trains employees on the use of a hand held data recorder and software to enter daily linen usage.

Communicates with Central Laundry staff on the coordination of daily linen orders including delivery of clean and soiled linens.

Performs the work of other Linen Services employees as needed.

Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established department and hospital policies.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High School level of education with the ability to perform basic numerical calculations.

Supervisory ability to direct the activities of service personnel revise schedules and coordinate all aspects of linen services.

Interpersonal skills to interact with hospital personnel in order to coordinate linen services with needs of user departments.

Physical ability to lift push and carry heavy loads of linen.

Knowledge of department functions in order to assess user needs determine and set priorities evaluate effectiveness and recommend changes to policies and procedures.

Data entry skills and Personal Computer experience required.

Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate a motor vehicles as required by the4 Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation in accordance with Brown University Health's Fleet Risk Control Policy.

EXPERIENCE:

One to two years progressively more responsible experience within linen services environment with demonstrated leadership abilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 30 FTE's.

Walking standing pushing stooping lifting going up and down ladders.

Works in laundry operation area where there is dust dirt and noise from equipment with exposure to heat and also to unpleasant odors in work areas.

Exposures to hazards such as hot pipes and moving mechanical parts.

Hazards are minimized with adherence to safety precautions.
