Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Shift: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

General Description:

Under general direction, responsible for the planning, direction, and coordination of assigned department(s).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates, through supervisors 9if applicable), the activities of the department.
  • Reviews and analyzes reports, records, and directives.
  • Monitors and analyzes costs, prepares budgets.
  • Evaluates, develops, and implements process improvements to enhance effectiveness.
  • Responsible for the hiring, promoting, discharging, and transferring of employees.
  • Responsible for scheduling and staffing needs of the unit; available for staffing needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Arranges appropriate in-services and continuing education programs to meet the needs of the staff.
  • Ensures the proficiency of the staff on the unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required; Master's level education preferred.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

  • Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques related to assigned department(s).
  • Knowledge of managerial functions such as ability to solve practical problems, maintain a budget, report writing and performance improvement tools.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for interaction with staff, patients and medical professionals.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks at one time.
  • Skills in planning, coordinating and measuring departmental activities.
  • Competence to participate in interdisciplinary formulation of individual treatment plans; to give skilled nursing care and therapy; and to direct, monitor, and evaluate the nursing care furnished.
